Maybe a hint of caramel malt there, but really its just smokey. Pour is black with a thick creamy head. The flavor matches, creamy yet dry and chalky. The slight dry chocolate flavor is thin, and really smothered by the smokey flavor. Lord, I wish I had a thick fire licked stead right now. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA

Big smokey cheese nose, slighty damp birchwood campfire, vanilla. Sweet mineral smoke flavor that feels very well-integrated with the roasty chocolate flavors. Very smokey, but balanced. It feels like with some smoked beers, the smoke tastes like an afterthought to an existing beer. This tastes like it was created with smoke in mind. Good beer. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 28, 2008 One of my most sought after beers since Ive become a smoke fan. Aroma was near perfect. Strong smoke flavor with some chocolate in the background. Pour was a nice deep dark brown/near black with a one finger tan head. Taste didnt disappoint. Strong smoke flavor which gives way to some chocolate as it warms. I love this style when the smoke dominates and just passively allows other flavors to come through in the aftertaste. Great beer! tomthompson89 (1488), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Draft, served in a small tulip glass. Pours a dark brown body with tan head. Aroma of smoked meat with hints of roasted malts and chocolate. Flavor is mostly the same, initially tasting like smoked ham and then the malts, cocoa, and coffee flavors come out more as you drink it. Fin (3420), Merton, Oxfordshire, England
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 7, 2008 Bottle at Eulogy, Philadelphia, in the company of Loz, Casey and Traci on my fortieth birthday, 16-11-08. Pours black, brown head. A stunning beer, quite unusual with an almost cheesy feel to it at times, maybe that smoked processed stuff? Quite roasty, little furry feeling in the mouth, there is a slight Schlerlenka feel to this at times, and that’s a big compliment. Smokiness continues throughout and this is a very nice beer.
