Commercial Description:
If you've been reading our newsletters, brewer Ro Guenzel gave you a flavor last month of what it took to brew this smoked Imperial Porter (singed hair, smoke in the eyes, sunburn, etc.) - all a labor of love. Available in beautiful 750mL bottles. The National Smokejumpers Association has made Smokejumper the "Official Beer" of their organization. So, here's the smoke in your glass, not in the woods.

Editor's note: this beer is described as 9.2% on the brewery website, but there are two sets of bottles on the market, labeled as both 9.2% and 10.5%. Left Hand has since had this beer lab-tested; the correct amount is actually 9.8%.

Bottle 2006, labelled as 9.2%. Dark black body with a small light brown head. Huge smoke aroma with some chocolate and roasted malt. Huge smoke flavor, blending into chocolate, toffee, and light roasted malt. Medium body with moderately low carbonation. Definitely lots of smoke, but not nearly as excessive as some others.

Thanks to terminus for sharing this one. Pours dark brown with a light crimson hue and a dense light brown head. The aroma is very smoky with only light meatiness to the smoke. Unfortunately there is still some bbq sauce aspects along with peat. Medium body with a decent amount of carbonation. The flavor starts with smoked malt, ash, light char and some dark chocolate. The finish adds some spice and some smoked woodiness. This is not really my thing, but pretty good for the style. The alcohol is nowhere to be found in the beer.

THIS SURE AIN’T KOSHER! This brew is complex, smooth, and delicious. Smoke is upfront and in your grill (for real!). Aroma is smoke, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is coffee, smoke, and a ham or rib flavor. This Porter came right off the grill! This is also probably the thickest "porter" I have had. It clings to the palate and the taste lingers. It takes a long while to get through this bomber because you want to sip on it and get all the flavors. I shared this with two other people and we all gave it thumbs up. Alcohol flavor is non existent which is good.

2006 750ml bottle from Odeed; Nose of chocolate, coffee, and light smokiness; black with brown edges and a medium tan head; flavor has smoke, hop bitterness, chocolate, and some background grape-wine notes; finishes with a tiny bit of bitterness and smoke! Best smoked I’ve had!

bottle...thanks to sprinkle for the hookup....pours dark brown with reddish brown edges. a significant light brown head topped this bad boy off..... aromas of smoke and chocolate malt in which the former takes hold and doesn’t quite seem to let go..... flavors of smoke, roast, and chocolate malt qualities. very smooth overall and the mouthfeel was fairly nice as well..... still not the biggest smoked fan and from what i can gather, i enjoyed NG’s smoked from the porter a little bit more.....i think i enjoyed this more that my score indicates. could be a 4 in my book.

Lots of smoke aroma to this, as you would expect. Not as smokey as the Urbock. Really smooth for almost 10%. Mostly tastes of coco, smoked ham and bacon. Not my fav. smoke, but still a pretty good one

Pours deep black/brown with a foamy brown head. Aromas of campfire, roasted malt, and beef jerky. Complex flavors of malt, chocolate, and smokeyness. Not my fav. porter out there, but not bad. Just a little too much smoke for my taste.
