Commercial Description:
If you've been reading our newsletters, brewer Ro Guenzel gave you a flavor last month of what it took to brew this smoked Imperial Porter (singed hair, smoke in the eyes, sunburn, etc.) - all a labor of love. Available in beautiful 750mL bottles. The National Smokejumpers Association has made Smokejumper the "Official Beer" of their organization. So, here's the smoke in your glass, not in the woods.

Editor's note: this beer is described as 9.2% on the brewery website, but there are two sets of bottles on the market, labeled as both 9.2% and 10.5%. Left Hand has since had this beer lab-tested; the correct amount is actually 9.8%.

My Bottom Line:
Smoked almonds decorate the healthy evening roast in this masterful, nourishing Imperial Smoked Porter. Surely one of Left Hand’s greatest achievements.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the brown-sleeved black.
-The body is full and beautifully firm.
-Malts develop more than roast and smoke; coffee, dark chocolate and nuttiness even celebrate.
-The only thing left to do is to have a taste-off with Bièropholie Grand Chef. Oh, and buy lots of each.
-This is not good because it’s big and intense; it’s great because every flavor is well calculated and ingeniously integrated.

Bottled in 2006.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of smoke, bacon, and wood. Poured dark black in color with a medium-sized tan head that lasted throughout. Small lacing. Opaque. Flavor of smoke, chocolate, malts, and bbq sauce. Medium body. Average texture. Soft carbonation. Smokey finish. Overall, very smoky, but nothing else.

750ml bottle shared courtesy of egajdzis. Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of smoked meats, campfire, with some roast, chocolate and earthiness. Real nice smokiness. Tastes of smoke, chocolate, and roast. Light to medium alcohol finish.

Draft. Very dark in color. The aroma is all smoke - Mesquite. This beer definitely is too smokey for my palate and tastes. I had to fight to get through this one. I see it has a large following, however I am not one of them.

Dark mahogany colored beer out of the bottle with a brown foamy head. Rich, campfire smoke nose. The smoke flavor dominates the beer, with lots of barbecue, campfire and honey glazed ham flavors. Chocolate, caramel, burnt toast and alcohol all play under the smoke. Really nice smoked beer.

25oz bottle. shimmering motor oil hue. it’s got head for days! aromas thick of bacon fat, bbq pits, hickory chips, and the oak monster. it’s big, it’s smoky. taste? heavy, thick bbq pit smoke, roasted and almost toasted burnt toast, black coffee; it’s big. major smoke all over the palate and finished off w/ rich unsweet chocolate.

750 ml bottle shared at Andrew’s bachelor party. Pours a dark brown with an off white head. Smoky nose, wood bacon and that "campfire" surrounding it all. Chocolate, smoke, molasses, and a light sweetness are all balanced really well. A touch of alcohol and a medium body. Of all the beers i tried warm, left over, out of the bottle the next morning this was the best. I guess it was those smoked flavors that bacon that made it good for breakfast. I kinda want more now just thinking about it.

Black colour with a light brown head. Smoked, light sweet aroma with fruity notes. Malty, coffee bitter flavor with a balanced skoked note.
