Commercial Description:
If you've been reading our newsletters, brewer Ro Guenzel gave you a flavor last month of what it took to brew this smoked Imperial Porter (singed hair, smoke in the eyes, sunburn, etc.) - all a labor of love. Available in beautiful 750mL bottles. The National Smokejumpers Association has made Smokejumper the "Official Beer" of their organization. So, here's the smoke in your glass, not in the woods.

Editor's note: this beer is described as 9.2% on the brewery website, but there are two sets of bottles on the market, labeled as both 9.2% and 10.5%. Left Hand has since had this beer lab-tested; the correct amount is actually 9.8%.

A nose of vanilla, coffee and smoke. Taste is of vanilla, smoke, coffee and oak. It’s massive and pretty bitter, but the smokey character has mellowed a bit - to reveal a solid imperial porter! I’m usually not very fond of smoked brews, and I’ve only been disappointed by products from Left Hand, but this is something else entirely. I regret that I didn’t buy another bottle when I had the chance.

Shared a 750 with Dr Jay, pour is dark with a rich brown head and good lacing. Smells of tar, and tobacco, pine, chocolate and soy sauce. A rich nose for a rich beer. The taste is slightly sweet with a liquid smoe quality. Some prune, coffee and molasses. Feel is light but not watery.

750 ml. bottle. Vintage 2006. Bottle conditioned. 10.5 % ABV on label actually 9.8. Shared with Gabe. Pours a thick mocha head of long duration with some lacing, over a clear, very dark, (SRM 36) with red tones body....nose of smoke, bit of bacon, soy, molasses, coffee, chocolate....taste initially quite sweet, then smoke , molasses, dried fruit, finishing with woody astringancy....mouth feel surprisingly light, carbonation low. A very interesting, remarkably complex and subtle brew.

Bottle shared with the guys at the Inglorious Emergency Tasting. August 31st with Butters. I’ll start by saying that this is easily the best Left Hand beer I’ve ever had. It’s also the best Porter I’ve ever had. Nothing comes close. Dark brown in color with a nice silky tan head. Notes of smoke, pork fat, bacon, and beef jerky. Supple beer. Wonderful mouth feel. Creamy as hell and fat as shit. But it has just enough acid like substance to cut through the fat. Butters is in love. Maybe the best beer I’ve ever had..... Part 2 - Okay decided to revisit this beer after we all went crazy over it at our tasting. I’m lowering my score .2. The smoke qualities can be overwhelming especially when you first open the bottle. However, the Smokejumper opens up quite nicely given some swirls and a few minutes. If you don’t like smoke, this beer isn’t for you. However, if you like cigars and beer together, Smokejumper is your new best friend. Overall: This is an excellent beer that description cannot do justice. While not my favorite beer of all time, it is exactly what I want for this particular style of beer. Holy Sh!t!!! This is F’ing good

Opened after seeing Butter’s praise. Dark dark brown, light red hints. Big loose but puffy dark tan head. Aroma is smoke, a bit of tingling spiciness from the smoke, campfire ash, chocolate, dry. The taste is silky smooth smoke. Not biting at all but lots of smoke in the form of real smoke cured bacon, campfire, smooth chocolate body. Nice stuff. Goes down velvety smooth.

Bottle shared with the guys at the Inglorious Emergency Tasting. Pours a black with good tan head. Nose of amazing bacony smoke, with a spectacular roasty malt undertones. Flavor is just as amazing, dark malts, plums, roast, toffee, smoke, ham, bacon. This is the perfect blend of a perfect porter with the perfect balance of smoke. Truly amazing brew.

Pours a slightly lacing tan head and a dark brown body. Smells like a bacon on dark bread sandwich. Flavor is a toasted, bacon and dark bread sandwich. Smoky finish.
