| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 13, 2009 Updated: Oct 14, 2009Bottle shared at a BA tasting. This didn’t go over well with the group, but I enjoyed it. Darkest brown in color with a tan head that lasts. Aroma of smoke, coffee, meat, earth, and a little band-aid. Flavor smoky and roasty with meaty/bacony notes, coffee, anise, and unfortunately a little band-aid too - which a bunch of people disliked, but I thought was not too much of a detriment. Mmmmm, band-aids! ABV well-hidden. Palate fairly full with a long smoky aftertaste. It’s no Alaskan Smoked Porter, but it’s pretty good stuff.
Re-rate: tried this again at GABF 2009. It’s good! Band-aid note is still sort of there, but it’s really not too big of a deal. Great smoked meat flavors make up for that and more. Jonte (823), Gothenburg, Sweden
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 7, 2009 Bottle. Very dark brown with a lasting small brown head. Aroma: smoke, smoked meat, sweet malt, lapsang tea, licorice, light horse/cow manure, a bit of hops. Flavor: smoked, malty, a bit sweet, licorice, coffee, light saltiness, menthol notes (from the hops). Not much trace of the alcohol. Actually rather easy-drinking. Nice! troyc (1175), Lubbock, Texas, USA

The taste is quite smoky, with coffee and light burnt meats. The beer has a syrupy texture, but the alcohol is still noticeable. Strong flavor and full bodied. Quite enjoyable! The aroma of smoked meats hits you as it does in the flavor. Not as smokey as say the Schlerenka (sp?) but really nicely done and enjoyable doboy (181), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA

Poured BLACK! The off white head disipates to a lacing on the edge, before disappearing alltogether! The aroma is that of smoky malt. The smoke flavor is intense and explodes in your mouth. Great smoke flavor throughout the glass. I can drink this smoked beer and not choke!
