It says it is smoky and sweet, bright and sour, bitter and smooth, all in a package that is so natural it is like it grew in a tree. I loved it.

This smoked beer pours a eclipse brown color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee. Smoke and wood. A medium to full bodied smoked porter. The malts are chocolate, coffee, smoke and wood. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice carbonation. A nice blend of smoke, chocolate, coffee and malts, all the flavor mix and match together nicely there is no one aspect trying to overwhelm. Very smooth tasting. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. spanky167 (15), , Virginia, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 20, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours black with a thick foamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, smoke and roasted malt. The flavor is smokey, roasted malt that along with some hops give this a strong bitterness, the big sweet malt base helps to balance out the beer though, alcohol is well hidden. Full body with soft carbonation and a thick smooth mouth feel. This is a very nice Imp Porter with a great smoke flavor that adds up to an outstanding beer. Trev (888), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 11, 2009 the smell activates my appetite for food... bbq smoked salmon, jerky...
it almost comes across savory, which i’ve never gotten from a brew before.
overall criticism, it’s a bit thin and watery in the middle and lacks complexity.
But a solid drinkable smoke with nice hops on the finish. smith4498 (921), Miami, Florida, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Serving date: 2009-03-15. Best before: December 2010. Served in snifter.
Very dark brown, almost black. Considering the style and high ABV the the pale brown, thick and creamy head is rather big and leaves plenty of lacings.
The smell is mostly of smoked meat (ham), some sweet chocolate notes, roasted malts. Beneath the massive smoke aromas, light hops are also present.
The taste has some big and powerful, but not overpowering, smoke flavors: smoked meat (ham, bacon), burnt wood/forest fire, charcoal, peat. Some general roastiness. Plenty of sweet flavors as well: chocolate, soft chocolate nougat, light caramel, coffee, some malts. Some saltiness (might be the smoked bacon). Again, faint hops are present. Seems like there is a very good porter base in this brew. The finish is considerably bitter and contains some caramelized sugar, burnt wood and spicy alcohol (however, the alcohol hides rather well). The taste of smoked sausage lingers on for quite a while in the mouth.
Full body, light carbonation. Feels very smooth and calm. It gets a bit sticky after a while.
A very good smoked beer. Complex smoke aromas coupled with an equally complex porter profile makes for a pleasant drinking experience. It gets a little to much after a while though and the palate takes quite a beating. A bomber is just slightly to much, but great for sharing.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 27, 2009 bomber - 2008 vintage; thick, dark brown and cola clear along the edges; thin, soapy off white head; smoked malt, roasted grains; aromas are quite rich with a dry smoke and meaty quality to it; lots of roast too and super dry in the finish; more of a smoked than a porter and generally I like the opposite; some chocolate and malty sweetness, but this had a little much on the smoke for my liking
