ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Dec 27, 2007 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark reddish-brown body with a small, ivory-colored head.
Smell: Brown malts with a holiday scent parade of cinnamon, nutmeg, orange peel, candied ginger, dried fruits, and a sprinkle of brown sugar.
Taste: Sweet and spicy, with the ginger leading the pack, followed close by the cinnamon and nutmeg. Hint of cocoa powder. Tangy fruitiness. Mild woody hops. Finishes relatively sweet with another dose of the nutmeg.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Lightly sticky mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Somewhat cloying and a bit too overspiced for me. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 27, 2007 Dark red pour with a thick white head. Aroma is an explosion of dark fruit coriander, orange and cinnamon. Thick body with hints of honey malt and cinnamon. Very much a Xmas beer, not bad. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Dec 26, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown colour with a little head. Very nice spicy aroma of christmas spices. Flavour of malt, spices and caramel, a very nice christmas beer. charcot25 (181), Cordova, Tennessee, USA Dec 25, 2007 Dark brown beer with tan head. Has an interesting aroma. The description doesn’t list wood aging as part of the brewing practice, but I detect some leather and cherry-stone aroma suggesting Brettanomyces. Has a sweet taste with caramel and spicy notes. Although I knew which spices are added, I could not pick them out. Well done. jgentgesdo (564), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Dec 24, 2007 Pours cloudy brown with a small to medium tan head. Nose is honey, bitter orange, and clove. Flavor is overwhelming spices, like my wife dropped the spice drawer and mixed all the spices together, then threw it into pasta along with some time of stinky cheese. Palate has an ongoing cinnamon and nutmeg aftertaste. Sorry, not my thing. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Dec 24, 2007 Bomber. Clear red/copper color with a medium head. Aroma was spicy wassail like with honey, orange and caramel malt.
A very malty and warm brew, toffee and caramel, followed by the honey and spices. Chewy. You’ve gotta try this before you say that you don’t like any Winter Spiced ales. MikeF (528), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Dec 23, 2007 ginger, spice aroma. rich brown, little head. this very fully flavored and complex winter brew contains honey, spice and a pleasant moderate chocolate component. A an excellent winter brew! sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA Dec 23, 2007 Bomber. Clear dark brown/copper. Aroma of... yep... gingerbread, and all the familiar spices therein--ginger, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon. A bit of a balsamic note as well. Not quite Chinese dumpling sauce territory fortunately. Flavor is of a more subtle gingerbread malt with some mild hoppiness at the end. For some strange reason I’m picking up a slight fresh lemon juice note underneath. Not too overbearing, sweet or dumpling saucey like I fear from others in this seasonal category. Basically palatable gingerbread-spiced Xmas ale.
