Commercial Description:
In honor of the mighty St. Vrain River that lies due west of the brewery, we've named our latest release in our limited edition "Big Mo" series St. Vrain Tripel. The St. Vrain River originates in Rocky Mountain National Park, and flows through Longmont on its way east. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an early settler of the valley who helped establish the first permanent trading post by white men in what is now Colorado. A reflection of this pioneering spirit can also be found in the ales of Belgium, where brewers, often monks, developed beers of distinctive character over the past 900 years. Simply admiring our hazy golden Belgian-style Tripel in your wide-rimmed glass doesn't even begin to reveal its complexity. The spicy aroma that streams upward with hints of wild flower honey and orange blossom is your first clue of the depth of St. Vrain Tripel. The sweetness from the malt makes itself known immediately, progressing to bittersweet honey and dried fruit flavors, and finishing out with the lingering earthiness from the Styrian Golding hops. The warming effect of the 9% ABV is your final indication that the initial simplicity masks St. Vrain's beautiful intricacy.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden colour. The aroma is a bit sour, yeasty and fruity. Flavour: sweet, yeasty, fruitish and with some bitterness, good maltiness. The finish is dry and bitter, well lasting.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of KAggie97. Pours a hazy golden with a small, off-white head. Sweet aroma of fruit and yeast. Quite full-bodied with very sweet malt and fruit notes with a yeasty touch. Subdued bitterness. But in general a very well-balanced and harmonious Tripel. 301107

Pours a pale gold with a mousse-like head. Aroma of banana, pineapple, white pepper and other spices. Fruity flavor with a soft bitterness. Finishes a little sweet and underattenuated.

Bottle shared with mds, HogTownHarry, blankboy and tupalev - HogTownHarry’s bottle. Hazy golden-yellow with a fluffy white head. Aroma of orange zest, yeas, spice and a fair bit of booze. Flavour - banana, yeast, clove and booze. Came across more like an alcoholic weisse than a tripel. Meh.

Bottle shared with Mds, Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and Gregclow, courtesy of Harry. Murky medium yellow, decent white head. Strong alcohol aroma - powerful. Not much else! Taste - pow! Alcohol! Sweet, lemon, sugar, but alcohol kills it all. It really burns. Interesting but too much.

Bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev & mds -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a murky light-yellow/dirty-orange with an average size diminishing frothy white head. Aroma’s yeasty, slightly sugary with some faint hops, spices and some alcohol. Flavour starts with alcohol, quite a bit of it actually, along with yeast, spices, some sugar and faint hops. Average bodied. It’s O.K. for an American made Tripel but it’s a shadow of a well made Belgian one.

Bottle (750ml - corked & caged). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, mds and tupalev - my bottle from SecretSanta2006. Murky pour, plenty of suspended particles in this, yellow, with an average lasting frothy white head (3+ - just too much sludge). Dry, sharply yeasty aroma, moderately boozy, just a hint of estery banana. Soft, dry and spicy flavour, tons of yeast here, candyish sweet malt, again only a hint of fruit character, and strong - yet not overpowering - alcohol presence. thick mouthfeel, alcoholic and syrupy, spicy linger and yeasty throughout. not bad, but weak enough malt backbone to make it SEEM boozy.

Bottle. Murky yellow-orange body with a creamy medium-sized white head. Interesting aroma, kind of dusty spice and lemony tartness. Doughy body with sugary flavour - pears and banana. Dusty peppery spice is prevalent and alcohol burns all the way through. It’s quite sweet overall.
