Commercial Description:
In honor of the mighty St. Vrain River that lies due west of the brewery, we've named our latest release in our limited edition "Big Mo" series St. Vrain Tripel. The St. Vrain River originates in Rocky Mountain National Park, and flows through Longmont on its way east. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an early settler of the valley who helped establish the first permanent trading post by white men in what is now Colorado. A reflection of this pioneering spirit can also be found in the ales of Belgium, where brewers, often monks, developed beers of distinctive character over the past 900 years. Simply admiring our hazy golden Belgian-style Tripel in your wide-rimmed glass doesn't even begin to reveal its complexity. The spicy aroma that streams upward with hints of wild flower honey and orange blossom is your first clue of the depth of St. Vrain Tripel. The sweetness from the malt makes itself known immediately, progressing to bittersweet honey and dried fruit flavors, and finishing out with the lingering earthiness from the Styrian Golding hops. The warming effect of the 9% ABV is your final indication that the initial simplicity masks St. Vrain's beautiful intricacy.

Bottle: Dirty straw, loads of sediment about, moderate to large foamy white head, fairly sticky lacing.   Pale bready nose, yeasty, slight floral aspect.   Soft breadiness on the tongue, a little floral but moreso a bit of heat.   Not really hot, but very warming.   Not as bready as most American examples, but certainly a bit more warming than most.   As it warms the floral aspect gives way to more and more of the alcohol.   However, its not as heavy as other examples, American examples that is.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Alcoholic finish, very warming, somewhat thick bready malts, very slight floral aspect.   Not as heavy, thankfully, but also a bit more alcoholic than most.   I enjoyed it, even if it wasn’t quite Belgianesque.

Bottle sampled on 3/3/07: Pours a hazy golden with some suspended yeast and a pillowy, frothy-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet, slightly biscuity pale maltiness and a touch of mild citrus. Body starts with a slightly sugary biscuity pale maltiness with a touch of light fruit flavor toward a crisp, slightly thinner bittersweet finish that hides the alcohol well.

Draft. Hazy orange. Cold-looking, with little head and small carbonation. Aromas of honey, coriander, hay and strawberry/cherry fruit. The flavors are more mellowed and less sweet, with a smooth, floral character. Dry finish. Delicious.

750ml - Aroma is pungent yeast, banana, white pepper, bubblegum, clove and alcohol. Pours transparent gold with small bubbley head and good lacing. Flavor is a thin version of aroma. Sticky palate. Not a bad American tripel.

Medium gold, nice compact head. Lightly peppery spice aroma. Flavor is of honey, a touch of apricot, and some candy sugar, but not cloying. Faint hay hoppiness in the finish on the back. Not a bad try, but not great.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Cloudy glden, lively head. Estery aroma of ripe banana and paper. Sweet with some coriander and very soft Full bodied with some molases and honey as well as pineapple. Doesn’t really take off, and feels somewhat one-dimensional.

Dark Cloudy Yellow Coloring with White Ring. Yeasty, Banana and Clove Aroma...Sweet, Yet Not Syrapy Mouthfeel...Just Enough Dryness to Hold This One in Check...Flavor Notes Similiar to the Nose...Alot of Yeast, and Spices...Very Notably Banana and Clove.. Overall Just a Really Nice American Tripel.
