Commercial Description:
In honor of the mighty St. Vrain River that lies due west of the brewery, we've named our latest release in our limited edition "Big Mo" series St. Vrain Tripel. The St. Vrain River originates in Rocky Mountain National Park, and flows through Longmont on its way east. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an early settler of the valley who helped establish the first permanent trading post by white men in what is now Colorado. A reflection of this pioneering spirit can also be found in the ales of Belgium, where brewers, often monks, developed beers of distinctive character over the past 900 years. Simply admiring our hazy golden Belgian-style Tripel in your wide-rimmed glass doesn't even begin to reveal its complexity. The spicy aroma that streams upward with hints of wild flower honey and orange blossom is your first clue of the depth of St. Vrain Tripel. The sweetness from the malt makes itself known immediately, progressing to bittersweet honey and dried fruit flavors, and finishing out with the lingering earthiness from the Styrian Golding hops. The warming effect of the 9% ABV is your final indication that the initial simplicity masks St. Vrain's beautiful intricacy.

On tap at the Happy Gnome. Too many of these American triples fail to achieve much resemblance to the sweet, spicy subtleties of the Belgian style. Pale straw yellow in color and perfectly clear. Sourdough and orange rind aromas with tastes of flowers, white grapes, cat piss and alcohol – it’s a marginally malty and very sweet champagne.

Poured a hazy yellow golden color with a medium white head. The aroma was yeasty and spicey with some banana notes. The flavor is a lightly sweet malt to start. Yeasty notes with a good belgian character. Nice fruity esters and mild spicey phenols. Medium bodied with a lively mouthfell. Very dry on the finish.

Pours a slightly hazed, yellowish chestnut color w/ a full, semi creamy froth that reduces to a satin canopy of brewers lace. Aroma is mild w/ banana gum spice. Strongly flavored and well balanced. This version has a little more banana gum than I would want in a tripel. The finish is bitterd w/ peachpit. Pour in the yeast and the brew turns grey. I am a little concerned with the color. Not diggin’ it at all. Not a pretty brew.

750ml bottle pours beautiful sparkling golden with a large creamy white head that seems to stay forever and laces the trappist glass well. Aromas of nice apple, floral notes, lemon, and some corriander, along with a good dose of belgian yeast. Flavor is floral, lemon, corriander, a good amount of yeast and some good grainy notes with a kiss of honey. All of it seems to balance together nicely. Rather dry throughout but well carbonated. Light in the mouth.. Alcohol is well covered.. Pretty nice American interpretation of a belgian style... Left hand has been impressing me a little more with the last 2 I’ve tried...

2/09/2007: Tasted from 750 mL bottle at River’s Bend on during the weekly Friday night beer and wine tasting... Cloudy golden orange color. It has a nice blend of fruit, citrus, and delicate spice flavors. Well balanced. Generously carbonated and slightly dry overall. Overall this is a good Tripel, but somewhat average and nothing truly unique or memorable really grabbed my attention. Rating: 7 3 7 3 14 = 3.4

8/07/2007: Left Hand St. Vrain Tripel is yellow with a foamy white head. It isn’t really cloudy, but more like just opaque in general. The aroma contains wheat, banana, citrus, spice, and a very slight hint of alcohol. Soft and fruity Belgian-like malt with a slight spice create the flavor. The 9% ABV is well hidden. This beer is medium to medium-ful in body and smooth on the palate. St. Vrain Tripel is better on draught than from a bottle.

Draught (250 mL glass) at The Brew Kettle in Stongsville, Ohio. Rating: 7 4 7 3 15 = 3.6

(750mL bottle) :Pours a huge white foamy head, lasting. Cloudy yellowish color. Nice floral taste, some grapefruit, sweet. Inhaling deeply, some dry. Good smelling. Light floral taste, hops, tiny alcohol. A good belgian ale taste. Warming up..a little skunky aroma, maybe in the taste too?
