Commercial Description:
In honor of the mighty St. Vrain River that lies due west of the brewery, we've named our latest release in our limited edition "Big Mo" series St. Vrain Tripel. The St. Vrain River originates in Rocky Mountain National Park, and flows through Longmont on its way east. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an early settler of the valley who helped establish the first permanent trading post by white men in what is now Colorado. A reflection of this pioneering spirit can also be found in the ales of Belgium, where brewers, often monks, developed beers of distinctive character over the past 900 years. Simply admiring our hazy golden Belgian-style Tripel in your wide-rimmed glass doesn't even begin to reveal its complexity. The spicy aroma that streams upward with hints of wild flower honey and orange blossom is your first clue of the depth of St. Vrain Tripel. The sweetness from the malt makes itself known immediately, progressing to bittersweet honey and dried fruit flavors, and finishing out with the lingering earthiness from the Styrian Golding hops. The warming effect of the 9% ABV is your final indication that the initial simplicity masks St. Vrain's beautiful intricacy.

On tap @ 1702 - Pours a clear golden color with a thin white head. Very light carbonation. Aroma is esters and light spice. Flavor is sweet malt, esters, and a bit of spice. Medium body. A nice beer.

Draft... Clear yellow ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Fruity, spicy aroma. Full-bodied with tingly carbonation. The flavor has a big, sweet pink-bubblegum component, but is also very fruity. Minerally, lightly bitter finish.

BCTC. Many thanks to the incredible generosity of the RB crowd. Golden with ring. Spicy lemon bubblegum aroma. Sweet cloying honey vanilla. Flavor doesn’t live up to the aroma. Ok.

Bomber. Light gold colored body with a white, soapy looking head. The nose is leathery with some pears and some floral notes. There is also some earthy musk scent to balance out the fruit, but it is a little heavy. The taste is fairly sweet at the start with some notes of pear core and fairly strong cinnamon spice. There is also a little bit of leather in the finish. A decent, fruity tripel, but amazingly light in the flavor department. After being burned a few times by Left Hand, I am glad that I actually enjoyed this one.

Murky medium yellow body. Slightly creamy texture with lively carbonation. Moderate alcoholic finish. Bland non impressive Tripel for sure.

Bottle. Aroma herbal, lemony, bready, fruity. Flavor follows suit particularly in the herbal department, though lacks a bit for me in robust, bready malt; I’d like more of that bittersweet honey in the description. Still though, this is way above average for an American-made triple, as the phenolics and sweetness have been kept in check allowing the drier, fruitier characteristics to shine through.

Julio’s Belgian Beer Festival. Sample. Not impressed. Probably the worst tripel at the fest (and there were alot). Very little taste or character.

On tap at Kort Haus. Pours a clear golden color with a sizeable white head. Very surprised at the color for such a style and ABV rating. Aroma of belgian spices, banana belgian yeast. Taste was sweet, finish was unremarkable.
