Commercial Description:
In honor of the mighty St. Vrain River that lies due west of the brewery, we've named our latest release in our limited edition "Big Mo" series St. Vrain Tripel. The St. Vrain River originates in Rocky Mountain National Park, and flows through Longmont on its way east. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an early settler of the valley who helped establish the first permanent trading post by white men in what is now Colorado. A reflection of this pioneering spirit can also be found in the ales of Belgium, where brewers, often monks, developed beers of distinctive character over the past 900 years. Simply admiring our hazy golden Belgian-style Tripel in your wide-rimmed glass doesn't even begin to reveal its complexity. The spicy aroma that streams upward with hints of wild flower honey and orange blossom is your first clue of the depth of St. Vrain Tripel. The sweetness from the malt makes itself known immediately, progressing to bittersweet honey and dried fruit flavors, and finishing out with the lingering earthiness from the Styrian Golding hops. The warming effect of the 9% ABV is your final indication that the initial simplicity masks St. Vrain's beautiful intricacy.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden year with a small white head. Aroma of sweet fruits, yeast, melon rind. Flavor is mostly yeasty with lots of bready malt and a touch of light apple, pear, peach. A decent tripel and thankfully not too sweet like so many American tripels. Overall, quite a nice tripel. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

Appearance: Pours out a hazy, straw-hued body with a thinnish, white head. Very thin streaks of lacing on the way down. Smell: Sweetish, pilsner malt-laden nose with plenty of fruity notes to be had and as well as a flash of alcohol and crisp graininess. Taste: Pale and pilsener malts with a fair amount of candy-like, honeyish sweetness and a faint background graininess. Enter in a rich, full mix of fruit flavors: peaches, apples, pears, and, upon warming, a touch of tart lemon. Spicy, lightly earthy hop character with a mild bitterness. Slight yeastiness. Traces of warming peppery alcohol throughout. Semi-dry, warming finish with a lingering taste of spiced apple juice. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-plus carbonation. Drinkability: A fine, fairly enjoyable tripel and a nice beer overall. While I would say there are better tripels to be had, I will also say this one is still worth taking a look at.

BCTC. Pours a hazy yellow with a thin white head. Sweet with some plum and candy notes on the nose. More sweet fruit and malt flavors follow it, ultimately leading towards a light bitter finish.

Picked up this gem at Hop City in Atlanta. 22 oz. A very odd look. Not much head, and a slight orange/yellow color. Looks decent, but almost like a pale lager. Semi-sweet aroma, not really much in the way of an aroma. When I do smell the beer a get a sweet candy yeast aroma. Again, the aroma isn’t horrible, but not amazing either. Smooth, not carbonated at the level I though this would be. Sweet sugar taste with some banana and yeast. A very sweet beer. Doesn’t have much in the way of spices, or complex flavor. Sweet tripel brew that is relatively decent. Overall, decent tripel but could be better.
