Commercial Description:
In honor of the mighty St. Vrain River that lies due west of the brewery, we've named our latest release in our limited edition "Big Mo" series St. Vrain Tripel. The St. Vrain River originates in Rocky Mountain National Park, and flows through Longmont on its way east. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an early settler of the valley who helped establish the first permanent trading post by white men in what is now Colorado. A reflection of this pioneering spirit can also be found in the ales of Belgium, where brewers, often monks, developed beers of distinctive character over the past 900 years. Simply admiring our hazy golden Belgian-style Tripel in your wide-rimmed glass doesn't even begin to reveal its complexity. The spicy aroma that streams upward with hints of wild flower honey and orange blossom is your first clue of the depth of St. Vrain Tripel. The sweetness from the malt makes itself known immediately, progressing to bittersweet honey and dried fruit flavors, and finishing out with the lingering earthiness from the Styrian Golding hops. The warming effect of the 9% ABV is your final indication that the initial simplicity masks St. Vrain's beautiful intricacy.

Bottle from Westpark in Richmond. Slightly hazy lemon-orange color. Yeast, apple, citrus and caramel aroma. Very assertive raisin and caramel taste. Well balanced and complex.

2006 bottle. Pours a briliantly clear pale gold with fluffy off-white head. Picking up some horse blanket on the nose with citrus fruits. Medicinal and mouth puckering. Very yeasty flavor (don’t usually mind that but I didn’t care for this particular strain used). Lingering bitterness. I love Left Hand and belgian tripels, but this one just didn’t do it for me.

Cloudy hazy yellow color. Minimal head. First impression of this beer is that it’s a bit tart, more toward the apple sourish type fruits as opposed to the creamy banana yeasty flavors. Good, but seems a bit like a fruit that needs to ripen. Light bodied. Mild yeast flavors. Some candy sugar notes. Overall decent.

Pours a cloudy lemon yellow with thick white head that dissipates to a white lacing. Aroma is a lemon yeast with a sweet sugar touch. Flavor is a caramel yeast with undertones of nuts. Body is a creamy medium with fair carbonation.

Bottle - Pours a cloudy golden color with a medium head, with a slight bit of lacing. Strong sweet aroma with hints of malt, spice, and fruit in the flavor. Classic example of the style, very good beer.

Golden color with a thick head, somewhat cloudy. Aroma is malty and sweet. Some sediment in the beer. Sweet easy going taste with a thin body that finishes with an alcoholic bite.

American tripels shouldn’t be compared to their Belgian counterparts. It’s like comparing the Beatles to Beatlemania (for the most part). But when you get one that is decent, fruity, light, you know it’s worth returning to. The Left Hand is kind of like that. It won’t wow me, but if it was available around here, I’d buy it every now and then. Beatlemania may impress someone who doesn’t know the Beatles. This tripel may impress someone over dinner who doesn’t know beer too well.

Pricey Corked and Caged 750ml bought at the Whole Foods in Vienna Virginia and trecked back to CA with me. Shared with my girlfriend Cyn. Pours golden yellow iwth a 2 finger bright white head. Cyn noticed some sediment in her glass, less in mine. Nose is sweet and yeasty with a big of Citrus. Taste is sweet and full of citrus and some what sharp if you ask me. Decent beer, Tripels seem to be either done spot on awesome or they are mediocore, this is above mediocore but doesn’t shine all the way.
