Commercial Description:
In honor of the mighty St. Vrain River that lies due west of the brewery, we've named our latest release in our limited edition "Big Mo" series St. Vrain Tripel. The St. Vrain River originates in Rocky Mountain National Park, and flows through Longmont on its way east. Named after Ceran St. Vrain, an early settler of the valley who helped establish the first permanent trading post by white men in what is now Colorado. A reflection of this pioneering spirit can also be found in the ales of Belgium, where brewers, often monks, developed beers of distinctive character over the past 900 years. Simply admiring our hazy golden Belgian-style Tripel in your wide-rimmed glass doesn't even begin to reveal its complexity. The spicy aroma that streams upward with hints of wild flower honey and orange blossom is your first clue of the depth of St. Vrain Tripel. The sweetness from the malt makes itself known immediately, progressing to bittersweet honey and dried fruit flavors, and finishing out with the lingering earthiness from the Styrian Golding hops. The warming effect of the 9% ABV is your final indication that the initial simplicity masks St. Vrain's beautiful intricacy.

Tap at Barcade 5th Anniversary party. Very pale straw coloured beer. The nose is quite light and spicy with a lean Belgian spiciness. The flavour is pleasantly dry with a very light herbal note set off by a kiss of peppery yeasty spice. Lean pilsner malt and a touch of light lemon peel and vanilla. It’s got a nice dry body and is surprisingly tasty. I have to say I’m very impressed and surprised. It could be punchier but it’s certainly a solid interpretation.

On Tap at the Left Hand Brewing Company, Longmont 23/09/2009 Slight banana fruit aroma. Low carbonation. Golden coloured and a little hazy in appearance. Smooth on the palate with some alcohol present. A hint of bitterness in a crisp and creamy malt finish.

All Colorado Beer Festival. Light yellow. OK Belgium yeast and banana and booze. Citrus, banana, and a sweeter malt depth, and lighter yeast presence. Finish is bitter, lingering, and rather light/soft on the tongue that keeps medium warming sensation from heavier booze.

Tap at Barcade’s 5th Anniversary Party: Courtesy of JoeMcPhee- thanks! Pours a pale yellow with a fading head- quite pale and thin looking- almost like a filtered pilsner. Dry aroma- only a mild bubblegum ester presence and a mildly sweet Belgian pale malt note. Slick light body. Way less residual sugars than most U.S. examples of this style- which is good. Some pale grains, mild bubblegummy phenols and a touch of peppery alcohol on the back (also mild peppery noble hops notes as well on back). Simple, but highly drinkable for a U.S. interpretation of a Tripel.

In the bomber bottle at the 2009 Crescent Moon Summer Beer Festival. Pours golden with a bountiful white head. A very smooth beer with a big ethanol content. Love it. Will look forward to adding a detailed description when my cellar batch is ready to drink. Right now, I suspect the 2009 version is too young to pass judgment.

Pours a lacing, white head with a hazy, straw color body. Aromas of yeast, dried fruit, dough. Flavors of bubblegum, yeast, dough, sweet lemon. Finish is a little dry, citrus rind, clean.

Draft. Pours a golden body with a white head. Loads of fruity esters pears and berries with a yeasty spicy body. Sweet candied sugars, coriander wheat. What a mess overly sweet etoh. Ugh.
