Commercial Description:
Midnight Project One - Sometime at midnight in a city nobody can agree on, the idea for Left hand and Terrapin to brew a collaboration beer together was born. Terra-rye’zd is the first of a series of one-time releases between the two breweries. It is a beguiling black rye lager that will hold you hostage with its complex flavor, and make you want to ransom off your neighbors’ children for another bottle. The spice derived from the judicious amount of rye malt will bombard your pallet

Dark brown almost black color with a deep red hue. Pretty interesting look. Reminds me a bit of a lite porter and has some chocolate and bittersweet flavors in there. Aroma has a little cocoa to accentuate the chocolate experience I am getting. The back of the palate has a little bit of red fruit and the finish is on the surprising side of bitter.

650 mL bottle. Poured a thick ruby black with a one finger brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and pancake syrup. Flavor was spicy with chocolate and caramel notes and a citrus hop note. Very different beer. Both Left Hand and Terrapin can pat themselves on the back for this one. Great effort.

This beer was surprisingly viscous at the pour, but did not come across as overly thick or cloying in the mouthfeel. This is a surprisingly malty lager. Lots of spice from the rye, some slight astringency. A very light roast backs up the rest. Pretty tasty beer.

This was the TITS… one of my most favored and most astounding beers of 2008. An opaque body that was so velvety and silky, I can’t even remember drinking a beer with such a texture. The huge addition of rye added a stunning spicy complexity that gave this beer the depth of time & space. Chocolaty, spicy, hints of coffee and toffee, with a tangerine hoppyness… an Outstanding drinking experience.

Bomber shared by Eric. Pours out a very dark brown color with a bubbly light brown head. The aroma is very light, some roasted malts, and some sweet notes, perhaps maple syrup. The taste was also smooth and light, sweet hops, citrus like hop flavors, chocolates, and a grainy earthy malt. Pretty nice, but nothing really stood out. Not terrorizing, but nice.

Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 22 oz bomber. Pours a very dark ruby red leading to black with a nice silky mocha colored head. Aroma is rather strange with some toe jam accents and baking bread. Flavor is an improvement on the aroma with some strong citrus notes, hints of licorice, some Christmas spices and a touch of mint. Nice thick mouthfeel. Good collaboration.

Bottle from Midtown in Nashville. Pours a deep mahogany brown with a beige head. Aroma wet grains and brown sugar. Medium bodied and smooth on the palate. Average to mild carbonation. Flavor of tea, caramel, and peanut shells countered by a moderately spicy hops. Rye qualities shine on the dry finish, with a lingering coffee like bitterness and slight hints of cocoa. Lots of schwarzbier qualities in this one. Not bad. Not worth 11 bucks for the bomber though.

Bottle in trade from MSchae1017. Thanks man! Pours a dark brown color with a light beige head. Smell is lightly nutty, rye bread and coffee. Taste is dark, roasty rye, zesty and hoppy with a light coffee touch and perhaps the faintest touch of lager yeast. Rich, lightly syrupy body and refreshing carbonation. Perfect mouthfeel and lasting hoppiness and bitterness make this a really under rated beer in my book.
