Commercial Description:
Midnight Project One - Sometime at midnight in a city nobody can agree on, the idea for Left hand and Terrapin to brew a collaboration beer together was born. Terra-rye’zd is the first of a series of one-time releases between the two breweries. It is a beguiling black rye lager that will hold you hostage with its complex flavor, and make you want to ransom off your neighbors’ children for another bottle. The spice derived from the judicious amount of rye malt will bombard your pallet

22oz Bottle. Pours a caramel-brown, with a red fringe and a nice tall creamy cocoa-powder-tinted head. Aroma gives a generous caramel and browned toast. A bit of milk sugar. Nice, brown-ale-like and decent. Flavor is snappy. A bright crisp rye punch. Chewy. Nice lager crispness. Cool and very smooth. An interesting lager, blending the sharper rye flavors, with a prickle of hops and the nice, well-malted caramel profile. Unique and enjoyable. Thanks Sean!

Pours an amber brown color with a brown head. Aroma is toast, rye, smoked malts, and some nice grassy hops. Flavor is smoked malts, caramel, toast, rye, and a slightly astringent bitter grassy finish.

Bottle. Pours a nice mahogany but too lively. Beige head sits nicely atop the beverage. Flavor is chocolate coffee powder, floral grass. Tingly mouthfeel that leavs a lingering film. Not bad but one is enough. Also, is this a malty beer? Is it a hoppy beer? Settle for one or the other guys!

Brew One 2008

11/20/2008: Left Hand Terra-Rye’zd is deep brown in color with a biege color. The aroma and flavor contain chocolate, dark fruits, and a hint of roast. It finishes dry and spicy with some roast and mild coffee. It has a medium-full body and a creamy, soft palate. Overall this is a pretty good beer.

1 pint, 6 fl. oz. bottle. Rating #99 for this beer.

Poured an almost cleer deep brown color with a medium sized beige head. Chocolate notes with some ash and light hops in the aroma. Mild roasty malt flavor. Fairly spicy, rye, with some ash. Dry and clean bitter finish. Light to medium bodied.

Bottled, sent as an extra from someone in a trade. Straight up, this is the creamiest beer I have ever drank in my life. It is almost unreal. The head itself is like whipped cream, but even after that has faded the body remains so utterly smooth and creamy... mmmm. Lovin’ it. Great flavor, with mild spices, rye, roast, espresso and a touch of dark malt bitterness. Excellent.

22oz. bottle, with thanks to dchmela for the nice bonus! Pours a darker cola brown with a large tan head. Aroma is also a bit cola like, with light general spice, toasted rye, bread and some minimal dried dark fruit. Flavor has a little more going on, with more light spice, roasted rye, bread and a little chocolate, but started to wear on me after a while. Not bad, and an interesting collaboration, thanks again Dave!

lightly carbonated red black pour. the head sticks nicelty to the side of the glass. a real pleasure to the eye.spiced grass nose that seems peppery and metallic?thick like a milkshake, i can tell there is a lot of rye in this.the peppery hop note is strong in the flavor, more meaty than sweet.just a hint of light roast in the finish. i’m surprised by some of these robust flavors.a bit of gum and ivy flavors in here, the peppery rye is all over everything, finish reminds me of arrogant bastard, , and unfortunately that’s not really a good thing. tastes like bubblegum, nickels, allspice, and hops. i like experiments and i will continue to try them, but i just won’t have this one again.5 6 3 2 8
