Commercial Description:
Midnight Project One - Sometime at midnight in a city nobody can agree on, the idea for Left hand and Terrapin to brew a collaboration beer together was born. Terra-rye’zd is the first of a series of one-time releases between the two breweries. It is a beguiling black rye lager that will hold you hostage with its complex flavor, and make you want to ransom off your neighbors’ children for another bottle. The spice derived from the judicious amount of rye malt will bombard your pallet

Attractive mahogany body is clear when held to light. Aroma of toasted rye bread, faint chocolate and spicy hops. Creamy body with a rye bite. A hint of red apple skin and pepper in the taste add to the spicy hop, rye, and choclate notes. I’m a sucker for these well done rye beers.

22oz bottle. Pours deep cola-colored, capped with a medium sized tan head. Nice aroma of cocoa, rye, caramel, chocolate, and coffee. flavor is rye, chocolate, spice, coffee, earth, and mild hops. Very smooth and easy to drink. Long, fairly bitter finish with hops and rye. Great beer.

22 oz. bottle - thanks to acrdz for the bottle; pours very dark brown and mostly flat and clear; chocolate, raw grains in the aromas; drinks very dry with a mild spice from the rye; decent

Bottle thanks to TheBeerSommelier: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany black with a spotty-lacing froth of beige head. Aroma of dry roasty dark malts and some grapefruity hops. Starts fairly full and sweet with nice rye flavor and very roasty bitter malty balance with a touch of citrusy hops. Finishes drier and bittersweet with some lingering dark chocolate and coffee flavors. An interesting and well-made brew.

This poured a pretty dark brown almost black color with an off white/tan head. Aroma was really roasted aromas with hints of smoke and rye. Flavor was really unique, some sweetness, burnt/smoke flavors and a nice sourish rye finish.

A very unique and tasty brew. A blend of the milk stout and ale. Almost a scotch ale, but much darker. Malt, chocolate, and coffee are evident and hops are present but balanced. Really exquisite.

Deep brown with red accents. Nice tan lace but thinnish head. Light yet soft texture. Big roasty-burnt flavors and aromas made me think of chocolate and tar. Faint molasses sweetness. Black licorice bite without the anise aroma. Charcoal in the aftertaste. Malts were rather husky. Snappy hops were flighty, as they seemed to come and go too fast. Overall, I thought it had some nice things going on, such as the strong roast and bold grain bill ... but there were some objectionable things as well, such as the finish, which seemed a bit stark and bitter. Although, as the beer warmed, flavors did seem to improve, and a syrupy sweetness seemed to surface, which helped to balance things out.
