Commercial Description:
Midnight Project One - Sometime at midnight in a city nobody can agree on, the idea for Left hand and Terrapin to brew a collaboration beer together was born. Terra-rye’zd is the first of a series of one-time releases between the two breweries. It is a beguiling black rye lager that will hold you hostage with its complex flavor, and make you want to ransom off your neighbors’ children for another bottle. The spice derived from the judicious amount of rye malt will bombard your pallet

This one flopped for me. Looked like a glass of pepsi with a nice grainy aroma. Flavor was not so great and the finish tasted like i was a drinking cheap beer from a can and at $9 a bomber, i would hardly call this cheap beer. This was a let down.

650 ml. Translucent deep chestnut with a half-inch head that lasts and leaves Swiss cheese lacing behind. Aroma of peppery rye bread, molasses and light licorice. Flavor is similar with some fresh herb-hops peeking through as well. Nice bittersweet charry finish. Heavy body is smooth, peppery-tingly and roasty dry. Damn fine lager.

sample on Nov 6, 2008. pours a dark brown with a bit of white head. the aroma is a bit different and not all that special. some rye on the nose. soft on the sides of the palate, very smoky with the rye on top. a little thin overall, but a unique beer that is worth trying.

pint at Tylers Apex. Good aroma, Toasted malt, kind of smokey, salty chocolate, nutty, Brownish black color, small head ok lace, Bitter sweet flavor, rye bite with a minor burnt streak. Lite body, creamy mouth feel, bitter finish. Tasty, the rye bite really cuts into the sweetness of it. I have had a few of these before finally taking notes on it.

Nice off-white more towards a chocolate colored head. This beer has a nice head to it.VERY dark brown, if not black in color. This beer looks pretty good. I purchased this awhile ago,and a few at that, but decided to rate it finally, so this one has had time to settle a bit A little too weak on the aroma. A VERY subtle porter/stout like aroma. I smell the rye, and some sweet grain, but this aroma is just too faint for me. I am a little disappointed considering Terrapin is one of my favorite brewers, and Left Hand is up there also. Wow, this beer has a damn good palate. This beer is extremely smooth and creamy. Actually, for a lager based beer this beer has an amazing palate. Slight rye taste towards the end, with a great bittering hop to follow. The toasted coffee like flavor is also excellent. What this beer lacks in aroma makes up in flavor. This beer has a nice bittering hop that just linger in your mouth. Overall, I am pretty damn impressed with the flavor and palate, but not so much with the aroma. Great brew.

Bottle shared by Butters or Springslicker. Both brought a bottle and I am not sure which we opened. Poured a red-brown with a thin off-white head that left spotty lacing. Aromas of rye, earthy and toasted malts. The flavor finds rye, chocolate, and some light spices. Medium to full body that starts sweet and ends bitter.

A cola-brown body shows deep and dark at the center, translucent at the far edges. Creamy and tan in color, the medium-sized head displays good retention, leaving nice swaths of velvety lacing on the glass. The aroma is unique, a distinct rye overtone showing along with cocoa powder, burnt caramel, mild earthy spice, and hints of molasses. Flavors follow suit, cocoa powder sweetness countered with earthy hop notes, rye grains lending a unique freshness to the equation. There is a hint of nuttiness within, as well. Substantial and creamy on the palate, it drinks easy, but feels quite full bodied for a relatively low ABV beer. This is tasty stuff, and serves as a nice break from the mundane.

Bottle from World of Beer, Clearwater, FL. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt, rye and nutty aroma. Medium to full body and a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a drinkable complex beer.
