Caramel and sweet malts blend nicely with herbal and citrus hops in the aroma. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a low white head that recedes to a lasting cover. Fairly sweet caramel up front is joined by moderate bitterness and a nice jolt of alcohol. Citrus lingers in the sweet aftertaste. Medium body with smooth soft texture and moderate carbonation. Some alcohol warming. Bottle sampled with Altair, beerbuzzmontreal, Cathschlag, Glouglouburp, Goldorak, MartinT, muzzlehatch and Yowie.

Bottle. Light caramelly malts, moderate hop notes of herbs and pine and a light broth smell for the yeast, with white wine and brown sugar in the background. Fizzy white head with excellent lacing, color is a hazy light copper. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic and the long finish is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is medium, oily with lively carbonation and a heavy alcoholic finish. Good but the unbalanced taste and the strong alcoholic finish keeps this from being a really good beer and the price will keep me from buying it. I know my rating came out a little high for this beer because of my liking of all things that are double.

My Bottom Line:
An earthy, leafy hop perfume surfs the caramel maltiness and its peachy sweetness. Hop resins have a firm grip on this Double IPA’s finale, but somehow the whole product seems to lack cohesion.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the hazy pale orange.
-This is almost balanced despite the hoppy intensity.
-Carbonation is pillowy and makes this a rather drinkable Double IPA.
-Herbal and wooden nots also dash across the tastebuds.

Bottle.

This beer has more of a belgian ale smell to me. The beer smells like raisins. There is a clear distinct smell that this beer has. It smells great. Nice and strong. Orange haze, and caramel color. Wow, an interesting taste. Very carbonated, actually the beer exploded when I opened it. Not as bitter as I would like this to be. The taste is interesting I don’t know what to think of it. The beer almost taste just like it smells. I feel that this beer is more of an ale. The only reason why this did not rate higher, was the lack of hops. I was hoping for some nice hoppy bites. The beer is somewhat smooth, and I can feel the alcohol warm me up. A nice beer surprised many rated this as low as they did. As I said earlier, more of a strong ale than a Double/Imperial IPA, so I am rating it as such. The bitterness just does not show through as it should. Decent brew.

This beer poured a hazy amber with a head composed of tiny bubbles. This beer’s aroma was somewhat hoppy with a lot of caramel maltiness that was reminiscent to me of a maibock. The caramel-ness was over the top and it made me pucker with a very wine-y quality that reminded me of a non-hoppy barleywine and was rather intense. Mouthfeel was pretty smooth. Not bad; I’d weakly recommend it.
