Sampled from 22 oz bottle in Montreal on Glouglouburp’s roof at the tiggmtl-returns/MartinT leaves for Japan party, June 17 2007. Dirty brown-brass color, a bit of lasting head and lacing....dry, resinous/woody hops dominate the aroma, and leave little room for caramel or any significant fruitiness, pretty one-dimensional....on the tongue, much sweeter, a bit of apricot or peach comes in and some light caramelized textures, hop bitterness is muted until the dry, fairly harsh finish....this is overall too dry and otherwise by the numbers as far as I’m concerned.

2006 vintage, 750 ml bottle. Pours a murky caramel color with a thick and creamy beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma of butterscotch and caramel hops with a hint of alcohol. Taste is caramel malty with a strong butterscotch presence. Thick and buttery best describes this brew. Not worth the pricetag for sure.

Cloudy dirty-orange body with a small off-white head. My 750ml bottle was fresh but I hope there was something wrong it. What stroke me about the beer was how buttery it was. Lots of buttery caramel and butterscotch. The resinous citrusy hops were barely able to pierce through. That’s all the notes I took and that’s all the notes it deserved. The most messed-up twin sister since the confused suicidal twin who killed her sister by mistake.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, tupalev & jerc - courtesy of HogTownHarry. Sunset amber colour with a slight haze and a small head. Aroma of big sweet malt and mild pine resin. Flavour is quite malt forward, with pine and grapefruit hops notes coming through in the finish. It’s nice enough, with some big flavours, but nothing outstanding when held against many other big American IPAs.

Bottle. Pours a hazy darker amber with not much of a head. Nose is very malty. Flavor continues to be quite malty but appears to be remiss of the hops. Slightly sweet in conjunction with major malting and hardly any hop flavors creeping through. Did not really love this one as I thought it was out of balance in a very opposite way for the style. This was #4 of 6 IIPAs at the tasting.

Bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev & jerc -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy amber with a large lasting fluffy beige head and nice lacing. Mild aroma of caramel malt and resiny hops. Flavour of lots of sweet malt followed by resiny hops, some alcohol and a bitter finish that’s just O.K. Medium bodied. I prefer my DIPAs hoppier upfront and not so malty sweet but as it is it’s still pretty good.

Bottle. Hazy golden amber body with a very nice creamy beige head. (4+) Moderate aroma of resiny hops and caramel malt, surprisingly noticeable alcohol covers up any subtle nuances. Flavour has a fair bit of the resiny hops as well, with supportive caramel malt. Alcohol leaves a lingering warmth, and something a bit odd in the finish. Average to medium bodied palate. Serviceable, but the hop profile lacks complexity and depth of character, which is fine if you like your DIPA more malty rather than hoppy – I do not. 7/4+/7/3+?/14

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and Harry, his bottle. Had it right after the warrior IPA from these guys. Dark hazy brown, small tan head. Mild hoppy aroma. Great taste - very dry hoppy - nice long lingering sweetness. Bigger than the warrior with a weaker aroma and a little more omph and sweetness in taste. Good!
