Bottle. Hazy golden amber body with a very nice creamy beige head. (4+) Moderate aroma of resiny hops and caramel malt, surprisingly noticeable alcohol covers up any subtle nuances. Flavour has a fair bit of the resiny hops as well, with supportive caramel malt. Alcohol leaves a lingering warmth, and something a bit odd in the finish. Average to medium bodied palate. Serviceable, but the hop profile lacks complexity and depth of character, which is fine if you like your DIPA more malty rather than hoppy – I do not. 7/4+/7/3+?/14

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and Harry, his bottle. Had it right after the warrior IPA from these guys. Dark hazy brown, small tan head. Mild hoppy aroma. Great taste - very dry hoppy - nice long lingering sweetness. Bigger than the warrior with a weaker aroma and a little more omph and sweetness in taste. Good!

Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and jerc, my bottle via SecretSanta December 2006. Cloudy amber with a large lasting creamy beige mottled head. Somewhat mild aroma, toast light caramel malt and a lot of bitter resin hops. Taste is very bitter, thick resiny but muted hops up front, solid toasted malt backbone, sort of falls apart in the end, a little too sweet. Pretty thick bodied, very astringent, solid carbonation, some acidity in the bitter/malty finish. Pretty good, a little unbalanced and syrupy, but good.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy, mahogany body with a thick, off-white head that simply lasts and lasts. Smell: Strong, sweet aroma of toffee and caramel followed by a richly resinous pine and grapefruit undertone. Taste: An upfront, overflowing maltiness strikes the tongue. The flavor is honey sweet and filled with vanilla notes. Tangerine and pineapple fruitiness in the middle. Hop bitterness mixes with a bite of alcohol to make for an astringent finish. Mouthfeel: Just barely medium-bodied and well carbonated. I’m sorry to say the mouthfeel was a bit too insubstantial for me. Drinkability: Decent, but you know what, I think the brew just isn’t worth the $11 price tag. It Exceeded the Worthwhile Threshold (also an upcoming Tom Clancy title).

Deep amber, almost brownish-black in colr with a small, beige head. Strong floral hop aroma. Malty flavor with a strong hop backbone, notes of caramel, toffee and a slight citrusy bite. Full bodied and smooth. A nice warm, hoppy brew.

I was very disappointed with this beer. Funky hop aroma, almost like deodorant or something. Grainy harsh mouthfeel. Relatively dry finish. Overall it simply did not taste "fresh".

Pours a deep amber color with a small amount of beige head. Great hoppy aroma. The taste was a similar, but not quite up to par with the aroma. Not overly bitter, but that keeps it in balance. I also picked up some earthy notes in here. Some citrus and smoke as well. Pretty good, but not overly impressive.

Eh, kind of disappointed in this one. Was looking for the smack in the face bitterness that is gotten from the IIPA and this one just didnt have it. IT certainly had the alcohol content down, but the flavor just wasnt there. Oh well, not a big left hand fan anyway.
