I have to say, loving hops more than anything, this brew completely let me down. It tries to call irtself a double IPA, when it clearly lacks the complexity and the hop pressence to be such. Considerably less bitter than I had hoped for. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great brew, but why buy it when there are so many better regular IPA’s that don’t cost $12 per bottle. For some reason mine had a sticker over the 9.6% alcohol that said 9%.

Attractive appearing beer pouring lightly cloudy burnt orange color (hook ’em) with a very large, totallly retained beige colored head. Nose is interesting with nice spicy, floral hoppy notes and some bread pudding along with some light woodiness. Flavor is likewise, with pineapple flavor, wet wood and some nice dry, spiciness in the finish. This works really well together for me. I am amazed that this rates so low on the style category. I find it so much more coherent that a recent anniversary IPA from a much more esteemed brewer.

Bottle from DRE. Pours turbid coppery orangy with 1-finger off-white creamy head. Aroma of bready malt, tropical fruit, hops, some saisony funk. Full palate, with a dry profile, and a bready malt taste, coupled with big tropical fruit notes, some funky barnyardy notes, and some finishing floral spicy notes. Well balanced with well hidden alcohol.

hopheads of the world unite! copper/light amber appearance with a nice frothy head that doesn’t go away after the first sip. caramel on the nose. taste - caramel, HOPS, a little creamy vanilla. finish is about average in length. the lacing was pretty cool too, kinda hazy. a little spice on the palate creates a nice complexity. the only drawback is the pricetag. it’s a beautiful beer though.

On tap at brewpub. Very light for a "double" IPA. Aroma is much stronger than the taste....alcohol is completely hidden. Nothing really impresses me about this beer. You can find a better IPA for much less than these bottles go for.

(750ml bottle, 2006 vintage) Pours a lightly cloudy amber body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, and breadiness. Flavor of toasted malt, caramel, hops, and oats with a bitter finish.

750ml bottle. Aroma of milk and mild hops. This is what I would consider a basic IIPA, Nothing special or fancy going on here. The flavor was what one would expect from a basic IIPA, mildly malty with mild hop flavor. Not bad ,but nothing to write home about either. I was expecting much more.

Bottle shared by sliffy, thanks! This one pours orange with an off white head. Aroma of bready sweet malt with a faint amount of citrus. The flavor had some light pine and citrus coupled with a huge amount of sticky sweet malt. Pretty malty all the way through with a kind of bittersweet finish...watery at times throughout. Not bad, but not anywhere near worth the money.
