| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2004 Murky orange ale with a small, fizzy, off-white head. The nose is of wood, citrus fruit, caramel and toffee. The flavor is very well-balanced with notes of toffee, butterscotch, straw and orange peel. Medum to full-bodied and fizzy. Short, astringent, dry finish. It’s not extremely complex, but quite enjoyable and warming. Pretty much congruent with the style. Overpriced (and maybe a tad overhopped for balance), but a bit underrated as I think most of us have forgotten how an English barleywine was originally intended to smell, feel and taste. I think a lot of us try to compare many styles of beer to the complexities of trappist ales. argo0 (6945), Washington DC, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 20, 2004 (750ml bottle) Particles suspend in a hazy amber solution topped by a big beige head. Aroma is sweet, grapefruit, herbal, some caramel, light alcohol. Taste is quite sweet, grapefruit, caramel, some herbal, orange, light alcohol. Medium body, definitely light for the style, moderate resin. Alcohol fairly well disguised. The coherence of the beer falls apart somewhat at room temperature, so best drink it quick (easier said than done in 750 size) or with a friend. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 17, 2004 Orange-red. Nose is lightly fruity, lots of honey sweetness, a bit of cola as well. Flavor is quite fruity, lots of apples and oranges and very apricot-ish, bit yeasty. Overly sweet, bit puckering. Somewhat astringent at the end, a bit harsh. Decent, but just not that complex, really. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2004 Bottled. Reddened copper body with a small light tan head. Aroma is light hops, fruit and light honey. Faint malt sweetness as well. Taste is slightly bittersweet, light honey, caramel, some fruit (citrus), and light alcohol. Body is medium with light alcohol warming. Finish is light alcohol, light hops, malt sweentess and a hint of caramel. Very smooth barleywine. It’s almost as if it has already been aged a year or so.
