Commercial Description:
This English-style Barleywine is fermented and aged for ten months and dry hopped for two months prior to packaging to give it a smooth mouth feel rarely found in the bitter American barleywines. Its copper color is the result of twelve house of boiling to caramelize the sugars and we also add five varieties of hops during an additional two hour boil. As you can see and taste, we brew this beer with the highest level of quality in mind. Please enjoy this warming barleywine with its warming flavors and hint of peat very responsibly. Malts: Pale, Crystal, Peated. Hops: Magnum, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Cascade, Tettnanger, East Kent Goldings, Fuggles. 70 IBUs.

Sampled from bottle at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2004 (#30).
Unclear orange colored with a fine off-white head. Full bittersweet aroma of fruit, malt and hop with orange tones. Creamy and delicious. Excellent full and complex flavor. Creamy, hoppy, nutty and caramelly. Fine balanced bitterness and a long lasting finish. Another excellent American barley wine!

I found the balance on this to be inpeccable. Fine, fine barleywine. Nose of apply cider, hazy dark orange color. Some tastes of apricot amidst a heavy body. Warming alcohol effect as it goes done. Fantastic.

I loved it: Nice hazy orange color. Small head. Huge hoppy and yeasty dough nose. Bitter alcohol taste. Great blanced.

Bottle(2003) pours patina gold, slightly hazy, large off-white frothy head, super sticky lacing, with no carbonation.   Soft nose, slightly sweet with a caramel flair.   Semi-sweet on the tongue, caramel, slight tobacco, with a nice hoppy bitterness.   Slight warming as it goes down.   Good body, moderate mouthfeel.   Finishes somewhat light on the palate, kinda quick, but with a nice semi-sweet candied hop flavor.   Light, but certainly enjoyable.   Thanks goes out to heemer77 for the trade!

Bright orange with lively bubbles forming a dense collapsing manila head. The aroma is light citrus hops, caramel, light butterscotch (increasing as it warms), alcohol, and a hint if bubblegum. Flavor-wise we have a big hit of alcohol, followed by some but not enough malt, lightly sweet, medium bitter, and largely alcoholic. The palate is lively with a large alcohol burn. This one ferments a bit too much IMO. Needs more sweet malts to balance the alcohol. Age might help some.

Hazy amber, orange and rubies. Head is finely bubbled, egg-shell/cream color. Smell is lightly of sugar, with some pit fruit (mostly figs). Nothing extravagant nose-wise to hint of anything spectacular. Taste is suprisingly hop-centric for a barleywine. Lots of dry, spicy pine-cone hops up front then sweet caramel, figs, raisins. Remains spicy throughout palate and aftertaste is loaded with figs. Decent barleywine, but reminds me a lot of an IPA. Shared with my good friend jgb9348 out a 750ml.

Slightly hazy amber/bronze coloured body with a nice dense off-white coloured head. Aroma of brown sugar, pit fruit (figs and dates), caramel, alcohol and some other fruits: apricots and pears. Medium to full-bodied; Strong sweetness up front of sugars with pit fruits dominating. Maltiness and some hops are very noticeable, but not as much as the sugars. Aftertaste is fairly clean for a barley wine, showing some pit fruit and a little bitterness. Overall, a decent barley wine, not great-but good to try! I sampled this 750 mL bottle puchased at Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 14-November-2004 with good friend jon[r888710].

Cloudy orange body, minimal white head. Caramelly, wheaty flavor. The sweetness is well-balanced by citrus and grapefruit hops. At the end is some alcohol and grassy hops. At ’typica" but well-made barelywine.
