The sweetness is well-balanced by citrus and grapefruit hops. At the end is some alcohol and grassy hops. At ’typica" but well-made barelywine. Crosling (1855), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 3, 2004 The pour is a dark amber, quite light in color for a barley wine. The head is thin and diminishing but does leave a nice coller of lace all over the glass.
Aroma is wierd. Scents of cake batter, lemons, sour cream, sugar candy and artichoke hearts.
Flavors of sweet tropical fruits. Quite alcoholic in the taste. Pretty herbal up front. Quite eccentric as well with flavors of compost and weeds.
A wierd one. ante (2960), Stockholm, Sweden

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 3, 2004 foamed over a fair amount, color is orangeish, head is light tan, mostly lasting. nose is overwhelmingly toffee malts, butter. hops are very subdued and play second string to the alcohol. flavor is much more bitter with earthy hops, fair amount of alcohol, and again, a lot of toffee malts and butteriness. flavor is just too astringent. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 30, 2004 Pours a cloudy golden with little head. Overall, very mild for a barley wine--reserved in both hop and malt character. Actually, a bit disappointing in this regard. Nose is apple, citrus, pine and some dried fruit. Medium bodied and a bit low on carbonation. Definitely let this get to room temperature before drinking. Even at sixty degrees Fahrenheit, it’s a bit low on flavor. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 27, 2004 Pours a deep cloudy golden-orange color with a nice creamy off-white head that leaves a sticky lacing in my glass, sweet fruity aromas of apples and pine. Sweet and malty like a good barleywine, sweet and sticky finish, very smooth and full bodied with a full and syrupy mouthfeel, not bad. Rockinout (946), Kent, Ohio, USA
