Commercial Description:
This English-style Barleywine is fermented and aged for ten months and dry hopped for two months prior to packaging to give it a smooth mouth feel rarely found in the bitter American barleywines. Its copper color is the result of twelve house of boiling to caramelize the sugars and we also add five varieties of hops during an additional two hour boil. As you can see and taste, we brew this beer with the highest level of quality in mind. Please enjoy this warming barleywine with its warming flavors and hint of peat very responsibly. Malts: Pale, Crystal, Peated. Hops: Magnum, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Cascade, Tettnanger, East Kent Goldings, Fuggles. 70 IBUs.

Daytona 500 tasting. 750ml bottle. Murky amber with a slight beige head. Caramel and tropical fruit nose, a bit of dust. Flavor the same, plus a bready element and some citrus. Very nice!

Pleasant surprise. Lots of intense alcohol aroma. Nice overall taste. Malt. Sweet. Could age a bit though.

I’ve been sitting on this bottle for some time. Hazy dark orange pour, some may call it amber. Fluffy white head and drippy lace. Roast, caramel, and citrus. Slightly dry finish with a touch of dark fruit

Rustico in Alexandria, VA. Pours an orange color with a thin off-white head. Citrusy aroma. Some maltiness with a hint of caramel. A bit spicy in the flavor, with some hops and citrus. Decent.

Tasted 10/17/08. 750ml bottle. 2007 edition. Hazy with a ruby amber hue. Layer of off-white head. Woody cocoa aromas. Slightly musty and a touch toast. Good Nose! Full bodied with a pronounced alcohol presence. Bitter citrus. Touch acidic. Mild smokey and tart nuance. Estery undertone. Mild cereal grains, but backed up with a hefty dose of hops. Well done!

Pours a rather thin head when dumped into a trappist glasss. The color is a cloudy amber with a redish tint and is full of suspended particulates. The aroma is nice and spicy with caramilized hops and pepper. It is also very floral. The aroma is nice and spicy with pepper hops and an apricot finish. It is a very balanced beer and has just the right amount of carbonation and a good texture on the sides of the mouth. It also leaves a pleasing flavor on the palate.

750mL bottle, I want to say 2005, but I can’t find a date on there. Poured clear, fiery orange with a creamy cap of beige head. The aroma picked up strong phenolic notes upfront over aged caramel and redder fruits.. toffee and cardboardey oxidation come shortly after.. came across as too strong and unbalanced. The flavor had prickly alcohol-amplified barley and resiny pine notes on the tip of the tongue opening into aged toffee, light brown sugar, and grassy notes across the middle.. sharp, boozy finish. Heavier-bodied on the palate with a buttery texture that unfortunately opened to sharp booziness on the edges and finish.. overall this didn’t do much for me.

Much too hot in the hops and very little malt backbone. Might do well with some time under it, but I am disinclined to even bother.
