Commercial Description:
This English-style Barleywine is fermented and aged for ten months and dry hopped for two months prior to packaging to give it a smooth mouth feel rarely found in the bitter American barleywines. Its copper color is the result of twelve house of boiling to caramelize the sugars and we also add five varieties of hops during an additional two hour boil. As you can see and taste, we brew this beer with the highest level of quality in mind. Please enjoy this warming barleywine with its warming flavors and hint of peat very responsibly. Malts: Pale, Crystal, Peated. Hops: Magnum, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Cascade, Tettnanger, East Kent Goldings, Fuggles. 70 IBUs.

Sampled at the 2008 Music City Brewers Fest. Copper with an off-white head that leaves light lacing. The aroma finds grapefruit peels and a malt background. Also some celery? Chocolate malts in the flavor with some caramel and fruits. Medium body and some bitterness.

On tap at Brew’s Cafe, Granville, OH; again, biased by 70 miles of riding hills; smooth, tasty, solid barleywine. What do you want from me? I left my brain back in Fallsburg.

Bottled @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2008. Hazy and dark orange in colour with a medium sized off-white head. Notes of hops, malt, caramel, fruits and more hops.

Pours a dark hazy orange with foamy offwhite head that lasts. Aroma very citric - especially grapefruit. Also caramel notes. Flavor very malty and earthy with slight alcohol undertones. Bit of bitter hop finish. Overall, very drinkable. Not too heavy of a barleywine.

RBESG08 grand tasting. Smells of a strong malty beer, some US hop. A bit sickly maybe. Lots of hops. Lots of malt and hops which are a tad unbalanced maybe.

Bottle @ the RBESG08 Grand Tasting.
[thank you, KimJohansen]
Pours muddy pale amber with a small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma is quite hoppy with lots of sweet caramel. Fine creamy mouthfeel. Flavour feels a bit light, good caramel, fine hoppiness. A bit thin for a BW.

2007 Bottle. Good sweet malt and light fruits on the nose. Copper color body big off white head produced some good lacing on the glass. Rather smooth without the alcohol taste in the flavor. Caramel malts with some medium sweetness. Sweet sugary candy caramel malt in left on the palate. Good Brew.
