Commercial Description:
This English-style Barleywine is fermented and aged for ten months and dry hopped for two months prior to packaging to give it a smooth mouth feel rarely found in the bitter American barleywines. Its copper color is the result of twelve house of boiling to caramelize the sugars and we also add five varieties of hops during an additional two hour boil. As you can see and taste, we brew this beer with the highest level of quality in mind. Please enjoy this warming barleywine with its warming flavors and hint of peat very responsibly. Malts: Pale, Crystal, Peated. Hops: Magnum, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Cascade, Tettnanger, East Kent Goldings, Fuggles. 70 IBUs.

Pours a slightly amber brown with a two finger head that shows very good retention and solid lacing. Smell is pretty typical barleywine with caramel, raisins and molasses jumping out on top of the sweet malts. There is also a strong hop presence to balance things out. Big sweet malt taste with a big brown sugar kick. Dark fruits play a major role as well along with the hops with show up and give the slightest bitterness to the taste. Medium body with pretty good carbonation. Creamy and smooth. This is a typical American barleywine and is as drinkable as you might expect. Nothing too jaw-dropping about this one, but I’d get it again if given the chance.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with an overabundant off white head that slowly dissapates and good glass retention. The aroma is sweet, hoppy, oakey, and candied apricot. It has the underlying taste of bleu cheese (perhaps gorganzola).

Bottle (75 cl) from Systembolaget. Fruity malt aroma with smokey peat notes, almost manure-like. Medium bodied and smooth. Dry finish with moderate bitterness. A poor effort.

Cloudy copper with no head. Fruity, bready nose. A bit thin on the palate. Flavor is slightly bready, heavy on alcohol and sweet malt. Not bad.

Golden-amber colour. Toasty, peachy aroma. Clean with light tropical fruit esters. Smokey, a bit thin, with light breadcrust. Accents of leaf and earth.

Pours a hazy orange with a thick off white head that hangs around for a bit. Aroma is a mix of malt and hops battling each other out. The flavor is a little weird. It is a little bitter, but it seems slightly off. I taste toffee, caramel, and a smoky malt. The hops don’t stand out as much. I think it is a solid Barleywine, but I have had better.
