Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: It doesn’t seem so bad, but it is a bit of a letdown. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

Another surprise bottle (3 bottles actually!) shared by Tmoney99 at the Cincinnati RateBeer Gathering on 3/23/2007 at Dilly Deli. Thank you so much! This is especially exciting since I just recently had the Oak-Aged Widdershin’s...
Left Hand Widdershin’s Barleywine Style Ale pours a murky brownish-ruby/amber color with a diminishing off-white head. The aroma has some caramel malt, apple, and muted hops. Sweet caramel and toffee flavored malt is accompanied by some apple and pear in the taste. Due to the age, the alcohol is only mildly noticeable and a nice oxidized/woddy "petina" (thanks for the great description jsquire!) has formed that accentuates and adds nicely to the overall flavor depth and complexity of this beer. At this point, the carbonation level was pretty low/mild, so this beer was very smooth and soft in the mouth. There was a little beer left in one of the bottles, so I swirled it around to mix up some of the yeast from the bottom and added it to my glass toward the end. This slurry seemed to help all the flavors meld together even more and lended a creamy smoothness to the soft and mellow palate. Overall, Left Hand Widdershin’s is a solid barleywine that ages very nicely...
