Commercial Description:
This English-style Barleywine is fermented and aged for ten months and dry hopped for two months prior to packaging to give it a smooth mouth feel rarely found in the bitter American barleywines. Its copper color is the result of twelve house of boiling to caramelize the sugars and we also add five varieties of hops during an additional two hour boil. As you can see and taste, we brew this beer with the highest level of quality in mind. Please enjoy this warming barleywine with its warming flavors and hint of peat very responsibly. Malts: Pale, Crystal, Peated. Hops: Magnum, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Cascade, Tettnanger, East Kent Goldings, Fuggles. 70 IBUs.

2004 vintage. Cloudy amber brown, nice off-white head, persistent, nice lace. Aromas of malt, peat, caramel, vanilla, apricots, peaches, grapes, tangerines, and alcohol. Tastes are sweet smoky malt, brown sugar, caramel, maple syrup, apricots, bananas, vanilla, cream and scotch whisky. Background of acerbic bitter hops, and a touch of herbs. Complex, deep, and well-balanced, I found myself contemplating the mix of flavors. Mouthfeel is slightly thick and clean.

I found the balance on this to be inpeccable. Fine, fine barleywine. Nose of apply cider, hazy dark orange color. Some tastes of apricot amidst a heavy body. Warming alcohol effect as it goes done. Fantastic.

I’m a fan of this. The aroma isn’t real strong, but the taste is nice and smooth. Not verystrong in the alcohol, but sweet and good. A little too expensive, but nice.

Yet another Dr. Bill surprise at the Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival. Poured a golden orange w/ good head and lacing. Soury fermented fruit w/ honey and caramel notes on the nose. Strong fermented fruit and caramel apples on the mouth.

I loved it: Nice hazy orange color. Small head. Huge hoppy and yeasty dough nose. Bitter alcohol taste. Great blanced.

Wow. Strong pale hoppy fruity and sweet barleywine. This beer really has everything, but is more drinkable than some of the rather syrupy barleywines. I like this a lot.

Bottle. Amber color, thinner than expected head. A very malty profile that is balanced well. Dark caramelized sugar, fruity notes, alcohol strength evident. Good barleywine, but may be lacking a certain complexity.
