Poured a nice orange-amber hue with a white head that seemed to have good lacing and great retention. A nice pine aroma with a slightly off earthy malt note. Flavor was very hoppy. This beer was nice but it needed a little more sweet malt notes to balance out the hops. The hops were not overpowering but the beer came off being one dimensional. Still refreshing and finished with a crisp bite.

Nothing remarkable here...other than the name...grew up with Transformers but wish I hadn’t visited this beer. Average on every level. If available for purchase in AZ...wouldn’t revisit.

Wonderfully translucent brew, with a color within the copper/reddish range, a nice contrast to the pearly white compact head.
Very gripping, resinous aroma that is quite piney at first, then goes a little more starchy/boiled potato, a nose that I enjoy, but it isn’t my favorite. Not everyone I was sharing this with agreed about this smell, but it definately is one that I pick up from some types of hops at this high level.
On the first sip the malt was nice and crispy, and the alcohol surprisingly discreet the whole way through. The hops then totally take over in an unbalanced avalanche of drying harshness. For this kind of Beer, it’s to be expected, but it dried up my palate so bad that I immediately craved a glass of water. Not even the tartest tongue dessicating Lambics do that to me! Maybe it’s been a while since my last over-the-top IIPA and it sort of blindsided me, but usually there’s a chewy malt backbone to help out your salivary glands. The hoppy aftertaste was okay, not overpowering, but the dryness just didn’t push the right buttons for me.

Clear light amber body with a medium sized off-white head that fades to a lasting cover. Piny, citrus hope nose with cotton candy, apricot and tangerine. The flavor is lightly sweet, moderately bitter with grapefruit, tangerine, cotton candy and pine needles. Medium/full body is round with moderate carbonation.

On tap at Capital Ale in Richmond Va. Good lord this one is hoppy! Aroma is overwhelmingly hoppy (what did you expect!?) but never harsh. Citrusy and flowery hops dominate. Taste is similar, not as bitter as I had though after my initial whiff. Still, there is plenty of bitterness to back up the full hop profile. Great surprise, I’d love to get my hands on more!

Thanks to Drewbeerme for popping this wonderfully named 22oz beer. Clear light orange-amber with medium tan head. An American hopped nose of citrus and grapefruit with medium sweet caramel. Very much a hop bomb in the flavor as well though the medium sweet caramel malt does creep through with an overabundance of bitterness. Medium-full creamy body. A pretty great IIPA with all those beautiful tropical and citrus hops that I have grown to love with the Americans but the bitterness overwhelms the malt to the determint of the balance.
