In short: A typical but very effective mega-hoppy, resinous and very bitter American IIPA. Tasty.
How: Bottle, 22oz. Tasting session with Montreal crew. Probably relatively fresh (a few months).
The look: Partly cloudy golden body topped by an off-white ring of foam
In long: Nose is resinous. Taste is “in-your-face”. Solid caramel backbone and a huge amount of resinous hops with a fruity pineapples twist. Alcohol can be felt but is not distracting. Round and smooth body. High bitterness level. Yet another well-made tasty extra-bitter American IIPA that is as unoriginal yet as pleasant as that countless other examples of its style. And I thought beer geekyness had reached its paroxysm a few months ago when Dogfish Head named a beer after a Nintendo cheat-code, but now here comes Legacy Hoptimus Prime. Oh my. I call a Lagunitas Pikachop IPA within year. You read it here first.

My Bottom Line:
This jovial Double IPA packs a lot of hop flavor, evolving into resinous and peppery lengths as alcohol heat and lean caramel malts attempt to tame a highly bitter finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam surfs the amber golden, with lots of floating yeast particles.
-The mouthfeel is rather slender for such a big brew.
-Carbonation is rather low.
-Although the hops are mostly coniferous and resinous, some citrusy and floral components pass by once in a while.

Bottle.

Bottle. Clear honey colored pour with a white head. Lacing is very good. Crisp mouthfeel. Piney aroma. Caramel malt flavor on the front end. Nice hoppy finish.

Thanks LilBeerDoctor for me second after work beer today. A beautiful gold color with faint head (long gone at this point). A nicely balanced hop and malt nose, mostly pine for the hops. Caramel malt body with a nice bitter tinge amid the hop flavor.

22oz bottle from table and vine. With a name like "Hoptimus Prime" and a monster on the label, I was expecting stronger flavors. The aroma is pleasantly spicy with a hint of pine. The mouthfeel is light with some citrus and pine in the finish. Not bad, but I wish that I had grabbed a double IPA since I spent 6 and change on the bottle.

Sweet, simple caramell based one. Very standard and boring. Perfumey and lightly piney hop character but mostly just simple and sweet. The mouthfeel is rather nice though, slick and not too carbonated. The finish is sweet with light perfumey bitterness.

Pours an amber-orange into the glass, with a pillowy white head that diminishes to a 1/4-inch soapy ring down the glass. The aromas are of candied citrus and some fresh pine. The flavors are similar, with a cutting piney-hop bitter throughout a grapefruit-citrus and malt background. The latter contingencies (malt-based) do not feel "quite up-to-par" with the standard of a top-shelf IIPA. The bitterness is certainly there, and a nice aspect of the brew, but the malts don’t seem quite in balance, as the mouthfeel suffers from being a bit oily and thin overall... just not quite thick enough for a staunch Impy IPA. Overall, a good brew... ABV is superbly integrated, and has some definite promise.
