Pour was an illuminated crystal clear amber, almost like a shimmering copper, with an inch of frothy white head. Nose is malts, light caramel, bread, yeast, and pears. Taste is a passive sweetness, mild hop bitter, and a nice dash of pepper that lingers into the finish. I purchased this solely for nostalgia’s sake, love the 80’s cartoons, but was pleasantly surprised. It is not the best of the bunch, but the pears and pepper, combined with the bitterness level, make for something quite tasty! eje (9), , New York, USA does not count | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Smell is not overwhelming - very light smell, somewhat malty and sweet.
Straight amber color. Translucent with a quickly descending head.
Light, sweet, a touch bitter. The bitter taste lasts.
Overall a decent beer. One and done.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 4, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear, orange colored body with a finger-width, frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves some pretty lacing. Aroma is interesting. Right out of the bottle it seemed thin, but it definitely opened up more after a few minutes. It doesn’t jump out like some other DIPA’s, but its nice. Citric fruits, mostly orange with a bit of a resiny wood and thinner caramels with a peppered alcohol as well. A light dough and some pine too. Flavor is similar. Starts with a very thin caramel and a bit of a bready taste before some herbs, pines, and woody oranges come in. Finishes with more of that pepper flavor, but not boozy, which is nice. Moderate bitterness, some resin, and very dry with a light tart citrus taste. Lots of lingering pines. Fairly light bodied with a noticable carbonation. Overall, a decent DIPA. A bit thin in the malts, but the piney oranges never seem to get out of control. I like the lightly peppered aspect of this. Not bad. blipp (1710), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 8, 2009 Bottle. Golden amber with a off white head. Resinous hoppy aroma with some caramel and citric sweetness. The flavor has piny/citric hops, some lightly sweet malt, a light hint of alcohol, and a cedar/woody hint. Pretty good. corby112 (763), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 1, 2009 Pours a coppery dark amber color with golden burnt orange hues when held to a light source and a .5 finger fizzy white head that immediately fades into a lasting ring that leaves sporadic patches of lacing.
Very fresh dank floral resinous hop aroma. Nice citrus presence, mostly orange peel and grapefruit along with some earthy dry pine. Subtle alcohol presence as well as a nice graham cracker/biscuit malt backbone.
Very bitter dry chewy resinous medium body. Nice dry piny hop blast up front with some awesome sweet citrus hop notes; grapefruit and lemon peel. Slight alcohol warmth mid swallow and graham crackery, biscuit and caramel malt backbone provide a nice sweet balance without taking away from the wonderful dry bitter hop flavor. The alcohol is evident but overall the 9% ABV is well masked. This and the nice balance of sweet malt and bitter earthy hops make Hoptimus Prime very drinkable. Recommended. Flavor was a sort of empty malt character with weak notes of pine and grapefruit. Great name for a beer though. patrickfannon (367), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA
