RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 12, 2008 Pours black with a tan head that rises off a firm pour and falls fairly quickly, though leaves a fair amount of lace. Nose is strong with malts and loads of oats. Something kind of spicy about it as well. This is almost like a nice oat muffin under your nose. Flavor is nice and hearty. Bitter back side that stays minor enough. Feel is nice on the carbonation with it being nice and smooth. Liquid is good too, but just a touch thin. Very easy to drink. A tasty stout.
joekinty (154), rockledge, Florida, USA Jul 6, 2008 dark brown to black pour big head with lots of lacing sweet molasses and roasted grain aromas followed by a slight amount of cocoa porterhouse (887), Alna, Maine, USA Jun 18, 2008 (22 oz. bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/westborough/julio’s-liquors/461.htm target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours very dark brown with about four fingers of light cocoa-brown head that recedes to about 1/2" and stays. Aroma is sweet and roasty - coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel has some nice oatmeal smoothness, lightly oily, medium-full. Lots of broken rings of lacing. Flavor is fairly big and roasty - coffee and chocolate with medium amount of bitterness that carries through finish. A bit grassy in finish at times. The rather big ABV is well-hidden. A pretty nice stout. rajendra82 (630), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Jun 4, 2008 I gor this 22 oz. bomber as a part of the BIF Race 2008 package courtesy of Eyedrinkale. After opening the bomber (which had been sitting between cellar and room temperature for a cople of weeks), I noticed the beginning of head formation in the bottle. fearing a gusher, I pured it into a pint glass, and I got mostly a glass full of head with a centimeter of liquid below. In time it settled down to a more manageable three inches of beer and four inches of foam. The body was dark and opaque, but I had to take a few point off for the over carbonation. The smell of the beer was driven mostly by coffee and and dark roasted grains. The taste was full of coffee again and lacked the sweet smoothness typical of Oatmeal Stouts. The beer felt thin and grainy in the mouth. I would have rated this higher if it had been formulated as a Dry Stout, but as an Oatmeal Stout, it missed the mark quite a bit. beerbill (1157), Laurel, New York, USA Apr 9, 2008 22 oz. bomber. Pours black with a moderate tan head that lasted until mid-glass and left light lacing. Pleasant aroma of chocolate, coffee, and some lightly roasted malt. Unfortunately, the flavor is not nearly as enjoyable as the aroma promises. A bit of coffee and some light roast, but both are overshadowed by the flavor of wet cardboard. Unpleasant bitter finish that lingers for a bit after the swallow. Not worth revisiting. bbp182 (245), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 5, 2008 Legacy Noreaster sampled at The Grey Lodge Bar. The look is a black with little to no head and lacing. The smell is super bitter coffee. The taste has a burnt flavor to it. Coffee hints. Very, very bitter. Not a favorite of mine.
