Bov (4659), Bienne, Switzerland May 15, 2008 courtesy of Antonio Rey Ruiz - clear amber colour with a solid pale beige foam; correct lacing; flowery nose with notes of red fruits; quite creamy mouthfeel with a solid malt body; very lively and tasty palate; some decent late bitterness and a long flowery, caramelish and fruity finish - a good beer
D (499), Kraków, Poland Oct 6, 2008 Didn’t much taste like a Belgian Ale, more like some kind of a very slight bock. Thick head, slightly sweet, heavily malty flavour with pleasant aftertaste. Satifsying. Mes_and_Sim (4487), Highgate, Greater London, England Sep 22, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle from Bierfest on the Gaudi Road end of La Ramblas, Barca. Lots of caramel malt and some sweet bready notes in the aroma. Not much happening other than some caramel and toffee.
Orange amber colour with a short lived off white head.
Better than most I have tried in Spain so far. Again lots of sweet caramel and bready notes. Rich and malty all round. Very faint hoppy bitterness in the finish. Worth a try. Touted as Spains first traditional abbey beer thanks to Charles Quint’s brewers coming here with him. I’m not totally convinced but I guess you can see a touch of the Kaizer’s influence here. NoiZe (947), Zeist, Netherlands Sep 16, 2008 Amber colored brew. Thin aroma. Sweet malty flavor, sugar, some fruits, some bitterness. Drinkable, but not balanced and not special. Mambru (2), Caceres, Spain does not count Aug 28, 2008 Sweet, aromatic beer and with ambar golden colour, it’s probably the best beer made in Spain. Pinball (595), Allerød, Denmark Aug 19, 2008 sweet strong caramel malty aroma. very good. orange red small offwhite head. strong but too sweet flavor. sugar, caramel, bitterness, aftertaste is sugar and bitterness. nice taste but rather unbalanced.
