Location: Tap at Legend, 12/27/09
2009 Vintage (15.3% ABV according to the Big Board)

Aroma: Aroma of some fruit, berries, citrus hops
Appearance: Caramel colored beer, white head
Flavor: Big, somewhat sweet flavor, nice bitterness
Palate: Full body, and not nearly as hot as the ABV would suggest
Overall Impression: This was a really good Barleywine, one of the smoothest, nicest drinking Barleywines I’ve had in a while. I couldn’t believe how smooth this was, and how well they hid the 15.3%, it was hardly there at all. Really dangerous beer, that is for sure. I really enjoyed it.

Bottle-2009. Yeasty raisin and orange aroma. Hazy ochre, thin yellow head. Full body. Deliciously fruity flavor of grapefruit, cherries, and brown sugar with a bready base. Tastefully bitter orange peel finish. It’s a bit like liquid fruitcake and a nice choice for Christmas. Alcohol evident but tolerable and tastes nowhere near the 15.3% on the label . Re-rate: This is a dangerous drink. It didn’t seem to have as much alcohol as advertised, but I felt it an hour later, and it had me walking sideways. Inbibe carefully.

22oz bottle, 2009 edition, from total wine in norfolk. pours a syrupy, reddish copper with a thin, whispy white head leaving a ring of lace. aroma is very nice and very sweet with notes of toffee malts, red berries, honey, vanilla icing, boozy cognac, and hints of candied pineapple. flavor is surprisingly nice and not nearly as sweet as the aroma with notes of orange citrus, apple cider, and sweet toffee with hints of earthy hops, cherry brandy, and a sweet, malty finish. palate is full bodied and very sticky with some hot booze but not 15.3% hot. overall, a solid bold, fruity barley wine from the legend guys.

Draught at Legend Brew Co. Copper Orange with thin orange-white head. Big hop citrus aroma with a lot of booze and floral hop notes... also some sweeter caramel malt. Flavor dominated by sweet syrup and booze...NO balance
