Alcohol and dark fruit on the nose. Flavor follows suite with a twist of hops. I really enjoyed this one. wingman333 (244), San Antonio, Texas, USA

Poured a beautiful shade of reddish-orange with a creamy, well-retained cap of beige head. The aroma picked up toasted barley and caramel with deep sherry notes.. fruity and herbal notes around.. quite nice balance. The flavor had more of the fruity character with caramel at the core.. grassy bitterness and some oak sourness surrounded.. finished warm and semi-sweet with a touch of anise coming in.. warmth unfortunately brought out the butterscotch. Medium-bodied with decent carbonation on the palate.. dry at the end and a bit spicy with a fine hop presence. Without the diacetyl this would have been really good. Caramelized sugars and malts dominate aroma. Dark amber golden with small fine off white head. Hints of dark fruits in the flavor. Rich deep caramelized malt sweetness, big alcohol warming with fairly high bitterness. Full body and mouthfeel. Finish dries quickly and is a touch hot. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 8, 2008 Courtesy Immy. Slightly cloudy dark amber, no head. General spicy malt character, a little cardboard. Very sweet caramel taste, typical for the style. Not infected or a diacetyl bomb, but not outstanding either. willblake (2180), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Well, my two least favorite beers of the day back to back and both of them were diacetyl bombs. This one paired nasty butterscotch notes with tangy, metallic flavors and some too sweet finishing fruits. Seriously disappointing. It is amazing how quickly diacetyl can ruin a beer for me, and how others can seem to not notice it at all. coachbogie (1), Montclair, Virginia, USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 27, 2008 Although most aren’t impressed by this barleywine, I found it to be rather pleasant. joekinty (263), rockledge, Florida, USA
