Commercial Description:
We fermented the Single on the same Belgian Trappist yeast strain as the White Ale (also the same yeast our Tripel is brewed on ). The recipe includes 100% malted barley (no wheat malt), Czech Saaz hops, and a bit of bitter orange peel for balance and a subtle spiciness. The name “Single” denotes the strength of the brew. For example, while our Belgian “Tripel” comes in around 10% ABV, the Single is 4.5% ABV. Expect a clear, deep yellow brew with a bubblegum/fruit aroma. Flavors include fruit (apples, pears, citrus), as well as a faint graininess and a slight spice from the hops and orange peel. The flavor starts out dry, quickly turning sweet and fruity. The finish is tart and spicy. It is the perfect compliment to grilled meats and vegetables, as well as salads, sushi, etc.

(22oz bottle) Medium white head that does not linger long, atop a crystal clear apple juice body. Aroma is medium sweet, bubblegum, some clove. Taste is moderately sweet, bubblegum, some apple, clove, light yeasty spice, orange peel. Low carbonation, light body. Pleasant summery beer.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with The_Beer_God (thanks!). Poured a medium golden color with a large sized white head. Aromas of lemons, citrus, yeast, caramel, and bananas. Tastes of lemony citrus, green apples, yeast and some spices. I liked the light green apple tartness in the finish.

Poured a golden color with a large, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus fruits, spice, caramel, some toffee, light barnyard funk, and yeast. Taste of citrus fruits, more clove spices, yeast, and a strong, tart, green apple in the finish.

Bottle at ’December at DougShoemaker’s 2005’ -- courtesy of rudolf. Pours a clear slightly bubbly gold with a small white head. Overly sweet aroma of yeast, malt & fruit -- almost sugary. Flavour follows the aroma and is also too sweet. Body’s a little flat. Just O.K.

Thanks to hopdog. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a small bubbly white head. Aroma of banana, spice, lemon and yeast. Flavor was really tingly carbonation with some spice, tart citrus and apples.

Bottle. Translucent gold with a mall fluffy white head. Nose is spicy and yeasty with lots of bubblegum and fruity esters. Taste is good! Fruity with light caramel, yeast, spices and bubblegum. Almost hefe-like in aroma and taste with a Belgian ale mixed in. Body is light-medium with moderate carbonation. Finishes with Belgian yeastiness, ripe fruits, mellow hops, bubblegum, candyish notes and light spice. Nice beer!
