Radek Kliber (3926), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Aug 19, 2009 on tap at Keagans Virginia Beach
Appearance: clear mid brown ale with light top. 3- Nose: mild roasted nose with brown malts. Flavor/Palate : Mid bodied. Slightly dry roasted barley character. Brown malts shown. Drinkable brew but bit lacking some depth.
Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Aug 14, 2009 On draft at the brewery. Pours a nice clear reddish brown with ring of whitish head. Nose of caramel and brown sugar follows in the flavor. Very robust and toasty. Crisp, yet filling. Malty bitter finish. Certainly lives up to the hype. Elwood (667), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Aug 6, 2009 Serving: 22 oz. bottle.
Appearance: Deep mahogany-brown with a tall, pillowy, off-white head. The head does a good job of hanging around.
Aroma: Nuts, caramel, a slight vomit note that seemed to get worse as the beer warmed, and some wet cardboard. Not too good.
Taste: Caramel, butter, a touch of coffee, and an off bitterness on the back of the tongue. Outside of some obvious flaws, this one is out of sync taste wise. Seems like a wanna be porter.
Palate: Soft, mellow carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and some dryness. Medium-long, slightly dry, bitter finish.
Overall: This one is a bit of a mess. The best part is the appearance for sure. Seems like there are some obvious brewing flaws in this one.
Would I buy it again: No. Smelled bad and tasted bad. Not recommended. keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Aug 2, 2009 Dark brown with a sudsy head. Nice nutty caramel aroma mirrored by the taste. Good and dry finish. Very well done GriffinAvenue (395), Winchester, Massachusetts, USA Jun 3, 2009 Draft. Scotch borwn color. Surface head. Nutty, malty, almost a turpentine hint that hits the nostrils. That’s not good for those listening at home. Oak, wooden. Ok for a brown but was hoping for better. These guys have a very nice deck and view of Richmond skyline. that adds to appeal of the beer. amp811 (38), Charleston, South Carolina, USA Mar 17, 2009 If you’re in Richmond, stop by Legend Brewery and give this one a try. Significantly better on tap than in a bottle. A nice, brown color with a less than memorable head. Many flavors (overall roasty), but none of them are overpowering, leaving a deliciously drinkable brown. The only downside is that it doesn’t really stand out in the sea of brown ales. mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA Oct 19, 2008 22 oz bottle poured medium brown with a slight tan head. Chocolate was the big aroma and flavor. Medium body and slightly sweet. A bit of peat in there too. beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Oct 18, 2008 On tap @ the brewpub-Clear light brown color w/a slight tan head. Slight malt aroma. Some flavors of roasted malt & caramel, but not much. Pretty boring stuff, not bad, just boring. Typical of many Brown Ales; reminds me of why this isn’t usually one of my favorite styles.
