I really enjoyed this beer, as usual with legend. Incredibly smooth, thick, and creamy. Some hops in the finish. Obviously creamy chocolate in the aroma and flavor. Some porters are great for their robust flavors, but this one is great for it being incredibly smooth and creamy. A great beer from legends, which i feel has always been a very underrated brewery. radagast83 (1317), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

Loved the bitter chocolate aroma and taste. Now if only I could get this without having to drive down to Richmond to get it I’d be very happy. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 22, 2006 22 oz bomber. This beer pours to a jet black color, with a soapy, tan head that fades, and a moderate carbonation. The use of cocca in this beer is very apparent in the nose. Lots of good aromas of bitter sweet/baker’s chocolate flood the nose, along with aroma of coffee and light roast. The palate is soft on the tongue, with lots of good dark chocolate, coffee, and cocca nib flavor. This beer finishes with more good chocolate, and coffee flavors up front, then ends with some really good cocca nib/dark chocolate bittereness that lingers. Really a wonderful beer that really gains really great aromas and flavors from the addition of cocca. A really wonderful mocha thing is going on in this beer, and makes it the ideal desert beer. Very impressive. ben4321 (1061), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma: Aroma of coffee, and dark chocolate
Appearance: Dark brown/black color, tan head
Flavor: Roasted coffee up-front, semi-sweet chocolate - bitter finish
Palate: Nice mouthfeel with a good, long finish
Overall Impression:
I really liked this beer. It is a chocolate porter for sure, but not in the traditional (sweet chocolate) sense. More of a bittersweet/semi-sweet/dark chocolate bitter flavor instead, but it works really well in my opinion. The ratings seem a bit low here, this beer was a rousing success at my table. A very nice brew.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 6, 2006 Pitch black, thin tan creamy head. Really nice aromas on this one with hints of rich milk chocolate, buttered toast, kettle corn, mild coffee and hints of vanilla cream. Flavor was similar with not nearly the intensity though. Notes of toasty chocolate malt, buttermilk, touches of cafe mocha, and a light hop bitterness that keeps the sweetness well in check. Medium bodied, soft smooth carbonation, lightly bittersweet finish. Going against the grain here, but I really liked this brew. Nice job Legend. Now we can work on getting some distributorship in Maryland please?

Nose of bitter dark chocolate, cocoa powder, dark malt, and chalk, with hints of dark fruit sweetness and earthy hops. Flavor follows, focusing on bitter chocolate and rich dark malt. Full mouthfeel and somewhat dry, with a chalky, chocolate/cocoa aftertaste. I am surprised at the low ratings. I loved the stuff, almost up there with Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. Quite nice with dark chocolate espresso bark and truffles. Go figure.... jrob21 (1282), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 30, 2008 This one trumps the Southern Tier Choklat from a couple of months back as far as pure chocolate flavor goes. This reminds me of a melted truffle, creamy and bittersweet goodness. Bottle in VA over Thanksgiving break. Really enjoyed this since I’m such a chocaholic but as far as beer goes, this is not as intriguing as many other porters I’ve had recently.
