Commercial Description:
Legend Brown Ale has been our most popular beer for eleven years running, so you might ask why we would feel compelled to make a different interpretation of the style. Our answer to that would be that Imperial Brown Ale is a different style altogether. “Imperial” in the beer world describes a beer that is simply BIGGER than the traditional style … Imperial Stout, Imperial IPA (ours will be out late Summer). These are ramped-up versions of the original style containing more malt, more hops, more alcohol, more flavor. Legend Imperial Brown has an intense malt background including seven types of malt for a huge, rich backbone. Look for flavors of caramel, chocolate and coffee, backed up by dark fruit (raisin, currant). Overall undercurrents of bready, biscuit flavors last from start to finish. Malt is nothing without hops and this beer offers a pretty serious hop balance in flavor and aroma. The bittering hop is Perle, a solid, British style. This is accompanied by Ahtanum for the mid to late boil hop for a little floral-citrus character. The whole thing is then dry hopped on Fuggles (30 days) for a nice combination of British and American hop influence. In short, expect a big, brown, chewy beer. 45 IBU, Fermented on Legend house ale yeast, sipped on randomly by the brewers for quality control.

Muddy brown-red; small yellow head. American bale hops and some molasses, peat moss. Sweet taste with dry-bitterish hops, but very little else. Molasses, yes. Quite chewy, ending lighter. Some alcoholburn. Good beer, but it is just a bit too much on the hedge between style directions.

[2nd Low Countries RateBeer meeting] Creamy, butter aroma with some fruit. Hazy, brown coloured with a slightly brown head. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter, bit roasted caramel malty, butterscotch and some hops in it. Funny. A few days ago I mentioned on one of the forums, I never had an american strong ale. Well this is the first one. :D

Bottled, LCRBM. Sweet aroma with blackcurrant and mango. Brown color, light brown head, fair lace. After this great aroma the flavor is a bit disappointing. Sweet, caramel, light roasted, bitter. Average body and a little dry.

Thanks to Numenor for this one! Pours with a generous head of tan over a deep brown body. Caramel aroma with some earthy, nutty, notes. Mild sweetness followed by a slight drying from the hops. Bitter finish. Smooth and easy drinking.

Some fat, hairy dude in a ugly red winter coat rang my doorbell in the middle of the summer and showed up with a bottle of this, among others. Thanks fat red dude. This pours a deep brown with a puffy, perfectly lacing head into my bulbous Aventinus glass. The aroma is liquid caramel and rustic green hops, very english, raw and pure. Earthy in the mouth with an underlying metallic twang, thick and viscous with very pleasant chocolate notes. Very drinkable and pleasant, and rather unique. Very nice!

22oz. bottle. Aroma is malty, bready and cookieish, lightly floral and roasty, some apparent citrus, spice, cocoa and cream along with faint doughy touches, very light smokiness and caramel sweetness in the background. Deep dark mahogany in color with a lasting, foamy, light tan head. Flavor profile is spicy, citric and bitter to start, giving way to a roasty, lightly toffeeish middle and finishing dry and moderately astringent, with a blend of juicy grapefruit, pine, butterscotch, lightly peppery alcohol and dark breads. Mouthfeel is effervescent and gently sour, body is medium-full. Has enough to it to make it an interesting interpretation. Thanks to Kinz!

Poured from my $6 bottle (my wife loves me). Dark brown with a bright red sheen reflecting off the bottom and a foamy tan head on top. The aroma reminds me of caramel-covered apples. The flavor is sweeter than I had expected ... tart even ... big caramel malt and a pinch of toffee. And then there’s a surprisingly tangy hoppy finish. Good.

Pour is hazy brown with a thin tan head...smell is strongly hoppy with pine and vanilla...taste is sweet and strangly causticly dry...interesting....
