Commercial Description:
If beer is liquid bread, then this is a meal in a glass! A big, black, monster of a beer the color of used motor oil that tastes like a food fight in your mouth. This is actually an Imperial Oatmeal Stout, as nearly 25% of the mash consisted of flaked oats, producing a thick, silky smoothness. Pale Ale Malt is the base for this brew, with Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, and Black Barley (all in generous amounts). Tomahawk hops are used exclusively during the boil and for dry hopping. Expect a thick, heavy brew with intense dark malt flavors and a sharp, piney hop character.

Pours almost opaque black, with a great milk chocolate brown head that diminishes to a thin soapy ring. The nose is of lots of dark fruits, roasts and chocolates. The flavors are dry roasted, bittersweet chocolates and smoked grains. The finish closes with smoky roasted hops that leave a bolder bitter than the rest of the flavors that precede it. It doesn’t "feel" quite bold enough for an Impy Stout, as the mouthfeel is thinner than expected... not watery, but much lighter than the roasted bitter back needs for support. All in all, a decent sampling, but not quite on the level of top-tier Impy Stouts just yet.

Black and very low carbonation. Good, thick palate. Simple flavors with coffee and chocolate. No perceivable flaws, not alcohol presence and very easy to drink.

Bomber. Poured medium brown with a moderate-tall cap of tan head. The aroma picked up toasted darker chocolates and coffee grounds paired with vanilla and a lactic sourness that perhaps indicated mild infection. The flavor had that same sourness throughout, picking up some acetic acid character.. caramel, chocolate, and generic black malts supported.. bitterness was light and earthy. Medium-bodied on the palate with high carbonation and a scathing sour/bitter character on the finish.. really threw it off.

Sampled during MN Gathering II in Maplewood, MN and shared by Guerde. From a 22-oz bomber pours a nearly opaque dark brown brew with an average sized tan head that slowly dissipates to a fine off-white ring. Aroma of toasted dark malt, a hint of coffee and chocolate, some light tobacco and vanilla. Taste is medium to full bodied, with flavors of toasted dark malt, some toffee, chocolate, a little vanilla and some molasses. Finish is semi-sweet with a toffee and toasted dark malt aftertaste followed by a mild bitterness.

Bottle. Smoky and malty aromas. Flavors were also rich, sugary and a little malty. An ok IS, but that’s about all.
