Commercial Description:
If beer is liquid bread, then this is a meal in a glass! A big, black, monster of a beer the color of used motor oil that tastes like a food fight in your mouth. This is actually an Imperial Oatmeal Stout, as nearly 25% of the mash consisted of flaked oats, producing a thick, silky smoothness. Pale Ale Malt is the base for this brew, with Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, and Black Barley (all in generous amounts). Tomahawk hops are used exclusively during the boil and for dry hopping. Expect a thick, heavy brew with intense dark malt flavors and a sharp, piney hop character.

Bottle shared by PWoods. Very dark brown, near black in color with a lively, bubbly tan head. Smell is heavily roasted malts, some ’’green’’ hops and some light cocoa. Taste is where those hops really shine and come through. Very piney and grassy. Not near enough cocoa to help out. Mouthfeel is very nice. Pillowy soft and velvety. Very good beer, just a bit too much hops for me.

Bottle, brought to the 2008 pre-Brewers’ Jam warmup. It pours black with amber extremities, a dark tan head, and a swirl leaves high, tight legs. The aroma is molasses, sweet chocolate, sweet pipe tobacco, and vanilla. The flavor is pipe tobacco and burnt sugar, primarily, but with a subtle ashy bitterness to balance it. There is a sort of milk-chocolate sweetness I notice once in a while. It finishes with a sourish char note. I gotta say, I’m a sucker for beers with fresh tobacco notes; I wish I could find that more often. Excellent brew, this.

Bottle shared by tronraner at the Pre-Brewer’s Jam Tasting. Poured black with a creamy light brown head that settles out to a thin layer that lasts and left good lacing. Sweet aroma of milk chocolate and marshmallow. The flavor has burnt malts with a light hop background. Medium body. Sweet with a bitter, burnt aftertaste. Excellent!

Suttree’s 2008 Pre-Brewer’s Jam Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to tronraner. Pitch black pour with a thick milk chocolate head, the liquid is quite thick and syrupy. Sweet toasted marshmellows, dark bitter chocolate and roasted malt aromas. Sweet smores over burnt campfire. Great tasting chocolate bitterness in the finish.

Black, big thick brown head. Nice aroma of marshmallow and milk chocolate. Surprisinly crisp, given how sweet it smells. Chocolate mixes with red wine. and a pipe tobacco. Pretty tasty stuff.

Bottle courtesy of growler. Pours black with brown head. Aroma of burnt malts. Flavors of sweet burnt malts, chocolate and coffee. Some piney hops are also noticeable. Full body with minimal carbonation. The addition of oats really gave this beer a nice silky mouthfeel. A decent, easy drinking imperial stout.

Bottle from Dkachur, thanks! Pours Black with small tan head. Aroma was of straight butter with some deep roasted malt notes. The taste was the same with bright hops mingling in the background. Deep bitter roasted finish.

This was a good but not overwhelming IPS with a lot of chocolate malts and generous amonts of roasted barley with a nice but not to big sweet finish and some hints of hops and vanilla not bad and very drinkable.CHEERS!
