Late blossoming aroma of roasted malts with notes of chicory, black bread, and resinous hops. Toasty, caramel malt taste, with flavors of bittersweet chocolate. hazelnuts and coffee balanced by the piney hops. Smooth, earthy, full bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel and a pleasant, slightly bitter, lingering finish. jcwattsrugger (5573), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 9, 2007 Pours a flat black with a fast fading reddish brown head. Aroma is outstanding. Smells like vanilla, grain, nuts, coffee and chocolate. Flavor is a bit of a let down. Malty with chocolate and coffee hints with a touch of heavy alcohol. Finish is very nice though, softy and creamy with a mild lasting flavor. Nice beer. JCB (1792), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 5, 2007 Rating from memory. 22oz from Once Upon a Vine, Richmond. A nice oily pour with a decent head to it, there were far fewer hops than I’d been led to expect, but the malting was quite pleasant. Only moderately thick, and a bit vinous in places, which isn’t really to my taste in impy stouts. But like other Legend dark beers, there was a tartness here that I just couldn’t overlook. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2007 Pours pitch black with a very thin, light brown head. Big piney hops in the smell which was unexpected. some semblances of chocolate and dark malts, but the hops overpowers them. The taste is right there with the smell. I think this is one of the most hoppy imperial stouts I’ve had. It makes for a pretty good blend with the roasty elements in the background. Somewhat bitter towards the back. Pretty good. kramer (2510), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 3, 2007 22 oz bottle, via kmweaver. Completely pitch black colored body under a large two finger foamy and creamy mass of head that receded slowly leaving some lacing. Nose is a mix of roast, coffee, chocolate, and burnt malt wonderfully balanced by a hefty amount of piney hops. Flavor is very dry and chalky up front with lots of burnt and roasted malt. The finish is very hoppy for an Imperial Stout with some coffee and ashiness. No alcohol apparency at all. Mouthfeel is very dry and has an almost dusty like texture in the finish. Very pleasant soft super fine carbonation. This was pretty damn awesome. Very different, and maybe that’s why I liked it so much. This is what the Storm King of today should strive to be. joss (3685), Garching b. München, Germany
