| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Sampled from 22oz bottle courtesy of Whaleman. Poured a dark black color with an averaged sized brown head. Wow talk about a hoppy nose. Aromas of strong pine giving way to roasted malts, chocolate, and a light butteriness. The hops in the flavors were not as strong as the aroma. Tastes of roasted malts, hop leaves, coffee, and light caramel. Some lacing left on the glass. I have a bottle of this that I will let sit to see how the hop presence fade over time. jcwattsrugger (5563), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 26, 2007 Bottle, sampled in May of 2006: Pours an opaque black with a nicely-lacing dense tan head. Aroma of semi-sweet very roasted malt with lots of fresh piny hops and a touch of butterscotch. Body starts with a lightly sweet dark caramel and chocolate malty presence with higher levels of carbonation. Roasted bitter malts and hops balances fairly well with the sweet dark malts before a drier bittersweet finish. Not that imperial or complex, but a good beer. hopscotch (5514), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, light brown head. Great retention. The rich aroma is to die for... milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, pine needles, vanilla, freshly ground coffee, and butterscotch. The moderately-bitter flavor is all about pine, toffee, grapefruit rind, caramel and charred coffee grounds. Full-bodied and silky with medium carbonation. Finishes astringent, bitter and Mojave dry. Almost too rich to finish the bomber myself, but I pulled it off. Christmas one day early. A world class gem! Huge thanks go out to growler for the bomber. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Feb 3, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Pickled oils swerve around the thick, bountiful mouthfeel of this Imperial Stout, undermining its salient roastiness, dark chocolate and vanilla maltiness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the pitch black.
-Its nose is rather atrocious; an obvious sign of a dismaying future. Either I am extremely unlucky with Legend bottles, or these guys often have bottling issues.
-The slow carbonation lets the malts express themselves eloquently.
-That pickled nastiness sometimes puts on olive oil clothing.
Bottle.
