Commercial Description:
If beer is liquid bread, then this is a meal in a glass! A big, black, monster of a beer the color of used motor oil that tastes like a food fight in your mouth. This is actually an Imperial Oatmeal Stout, as nearly 25% of the mash consisted of flaked oats, producing a thick, silky smoothness. Pale Ale Malt is the base for this brew, with Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, and Black Barley (all in generous amounts). Tomahawk hops are used exclusively during the boil and for dry hopping. Expect a thick, heavy brew with intense dark malt flavors and a sharp, piney hop character.

Very complex intense aroma of toffee, chocolate syrup, woody, leafy, bark. Trace of smoke and fig and even a bit musty smell to it. Black opaque pour, viscous, with a thick brown head, and good lacing. Tastes of espresso, bitter bark, currants, and high quality hops. Espresso and walnut finish. Frothy mouthfeel, fantastic complexity and balance. No trace of alcohol. Pairs well with strong meats and cheeses. Hops really shine through when warm. Amazing brew!

Bottle 2007. Another fine creation from Legend. Pours a thick, jet black beer that resembles molasses, average sized brownish mahogany head. Aroma of bourbon, oak, anise, coffee, toffee, caramel chocolate. A touch acrid at first but mellows out after a few sips. Flavor is very complex, very malty and very good. Some spiciness comes through. Full bodied, silky, smooth and perfectly carbonated. They make some fine brews.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, light brown head. Great retention. The rich aroma is to die for... milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, pine needles, vanilla, freshly ground coffee, and butterscotch. The moderately-bitter flavor is all about pine, toffee, grapefruit rind, caramel and charred coffee grounds. Full-bodied and silky with medium carbonation. Finishes astringent, bitter and Mojave dry. Almost too rich to finish the bomber myself, but I pulled it off. Christmas one day early. A world class gem! Huge thanks go out to growler for the bomber.

650 ml bottle from vintage cellars. This is a unique Imperial Stout with an absolutely intriguing flavor profile and an amazing balance of tastes. Black with a creamy brown head. Full body silky palate. Chocolate, pine, and spice aroma. Interesting sweet taste of chocolate, currants, black pepper, and a wonderful earthy pine taste with espresso notes to the finish. Excellent.

Draft at Green Leafe, Williamsburg: Pitch-black with a dark tan head. Nicely bittered! A hoppy stout, what a treat! Roasty and toasty. Yummy.

Black brew with huge foamy brown head. Very strong hop aroma. Big bitter burn, very warm, sweet, sharp and piney. God the burn, it haunts you. Delicious.Hops is very powerful in the flavor with notes of malt creeping through. Strange feeling on the tongue like you licked a piece of metal. Not as heavy bodied as I anticipated, very drinkable and enjoyable. Very hopped up for a stout vice the normal liquid chocolate treats.

Thanks sliffy: This has just about the right amount of alcohol for a drinkable IS. Aroma of burnt chocolate malts, and scalded chocolate milk, with an alluring sweetness. Very dark pour, with thin tan head of small bubbles. Extreme malt on the palate but rounded out with a good balance of hop bitterness. Bittersweet and delicious.

Many thanks to whomever provided this at Dark Lord Day. Opaque black with a creamy tan head. Café Mocha, caramel, toffee, dried fruit, anise, and more waft up to the nose. Creamy and smooth on the palate and full bodied. The flavor was rich and rewarding with the emphasis on the coffolate.
