Aroma was that of caramels, spices, and malts. Flavor was nothing short of amazing. Creamy caramels, with a nice roasted malt flavor. Touches of coffee and dark chocolates. When drinking it it came off as more of a porter, but has a good amount of brown characterisitc to it. Braudog (3773), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2007 22 oz bomber -- poured a deep, dark red-tinted hue with a beautiful mountain cap of rocky foam. The aroma is big and spicy, almost like a Worchestershire sauce. Likewise, this drinks with a big, bold very woodsy, barky palate. There’s a sweet caramel pull, as well. Doesn’t really fit the humid crush of the 400th anniversary season, but this would be a great warmer in the fall. Nice. (#2946, 5/31/2007) alexanderj (2280), Chino Hills, California, USA

Aroma of chocolate, caramel, spice, vanilla and grassy hops. Flavors of sweet chocolate, caramel, nuts, hint of grapefruit, vanilla and coffee. Without a doubt, the best of the style I have had thus far. Really enjoyed this one; whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 31, 2007 Clear rusty-brown body with a velvety beige head. Distinct and novel aroma of perfumy hops, sweet caramel malt, and a hint of warm spice. Candy caramel flavor with mild, creamy, roasted coffee notes. Medium sweet and lightly tangy with good balancing bitterness. This is a nice brown ale. Reinvigorates my interest in an unheralded style.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Jun 25, 2007 22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a deep brown with ruby highlights. Has a sticky tan head and lacing. More a porter than a brown ale. Aromas are of espresso beans, chocolate brownies, slightly spicy too. Flavors are of roasted nuts, sweet caramel malts, coffee, hoppy bite at the end.
Thick body, rich & chewy. About 7% ABV is my guess. You can feel the warming buzz shortly after drinking it.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2007 22oz bottle acquired in trade with The_Beer_God (thanks!). Poured a deep brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and some nuts. Tastes of roasted and toasted nuts, bitter chocolate, trace of caramel, and had a bitter coffee finish. Interesting for a brown ale. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2007 This is certainly the darkest brown ale I’ve had. Pours a thin-looking, very dark brown with mahogany hints. Looks like an English Porter. Thin, light beige head, slow recession. The aroma has notes of English malts, toffee, caramel, in that order they become noticeable. Chocolate follows, then lots of various earthy nuts, vanilla bean, cocoa dust. Good quality and quantiy of roast. Alcohol is lightly evident. The flavor is competent but less interesting, slightly muddled. Notes of chocolate, caramel, marshmallow and vanilla dominate. The mouthfeel is medium to medium-full bodied with adequate, soothing complimentary carbonation, soft and very pleasant. Finishes chocolatey, nutty, medium duration. Tasty. Lightly sweet, toasty dark caramel malty aroma has some toffee notes. Body starts lightly sweet and toasty with some dark, mildly roasted notes toward a slightly grainy, drier finish. A nice brown ale.
