Sweetish, metal malt aroma which is a little thick. Lively sweetness, esteric, not very true to style. Low bittering, low CO2 retention. Finish is sweet on the lips and nutty. luv2brew (179), Chesterfield, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 15, 2007 This one pours a deep dark mahogany. The nose comes across a little earthy and the head stays around at about a quarter inch. This is better than it was last year. It is bigger, sweeter and a little fresher. It almost has a powdered sugar sweetness that ends pretty fast, but all around a good beer. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 1/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Dec 8, 2006 Multiple bottles sampled over a period of about 2 months. Pours copper/red with a tan active head. Smells of roses, sugar, oranges, metallic, nutty and breaddy. Tastes lightly tangy with some cherry like sourness and not much else to speak of. I don’t know if this is a house character for their beers or a QC issue, but this is the third bottle of the oktoberfest I’ve tried so I’m assuming this is a known issue and my rating will stand. Total drainpour! OldMrCrow (1200), Seattle, Washington, USA

Pours an attractive deep orange brown with a vast tan head; the aroma is surprisingly orange-heavy, not as in strong hop resins so much as in a fruit accent. The flavor, unfortunately, is foul. It’s vegetal and surprisingly sour; this is an infected bottle. Some caramel flavors in a malt, a slight bite of Saaz on the finish, some metal, but the rank off-flavors from the infection just ruin it for me.
I was really looking forward to trying this one, but after being so disappointed I read through the other ratings and I notice that a considerable fraction of the 38 ratings thus far mention possible infection or nasty sourness consistant with such. I think the brewery may have a quality control issue here. PorterPounder (3147), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Dark copper pour with a tight khaki colored head that leavfes a good trial of lace. Strong aroma of caramel and vanilla. Very sweet flavor of ripening vegetables, caramel and a bit of baked brown bread. Very full bodied Oktoberfest. Mouthfeel is pleasantly thick and somewhat creamy.
