Commercial Description:
Legend Oktoberfest lager is our most popular seasonal. This brew is red-orange in color, malty but well balanced with noble type hops. It has 5.4% alcohol by volume and is lagered (aged) to create a smooth drinkability. It is most similar in style to a Vienna lager or a Marzen beer. Judicious use of caramelized malt gives this brew a smooth sweetness and deep orange color. It is hopped with American Tettnang, German Hallertau and Czech Saaz.

Bottled at the Chris_O Beer, Cheese and Curry powwow. A hazy copper coloured beer with a big rocky head. Gushed on opening. The aroma is malty and a little smoky. The taste is sweet and malty but there’s a different alcohol feel to German O’Fests. Below average.

Bottle at London Gathering Nov 2005. Copper colour with sediment in suspension, beige lasting head. Exploded on opening. Bit nasty on nose. OK in mouth with yeasty funkiness on end. Have given default score as not sure it was supposed to be like this. Original score of 1.4

Bottle at Chris’. Gusher, went all over the floor on opening. Sour, almost like a bad Belgian. Horrible. Infected? (1.5)

For the style, although not my favorite, this one nails it. I am continuing to be impressed with this brewery, and here it is just down the road from me. Full amber malt flavor without being to sweet. Just enough hops to balance without advertising their presence- excellent.

Bottle: Poured a light brown color lager with a nice big white bubbly head with minimal retention. Aroma of crisp hops with some sweet malt. Taste is dominated at first with sweet caramel malt and finish with a medium bitterness. Very nice and refreshing from a style that I don’t seem to drink much of.

Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Medium amber color with off white head. Clean, antiseptic nose of light malt and faintly bitter hops. Flavor is a nice slightly sweet malt with a good bit of hop bitterness in the middle and finish. Slightly chewy yeastiness, medium bodied, and quite refreshing. A nice active Oktoberfest.

Definitly a good drinkable beer. Nice sweet malts with caramel flavors and a bit of spice. Just a nice well rounded flavor. One of those beers you appriciate becuase it has a good overall flavor, just nothing too outstanding.
