Commercial Description:
Legend Oktoberfest lager is our most popular seasonal. This brew is red-orange in color, malty but well balanced with noble type hops. It has 5.4% alcohol by volume and is lagered (aged) to create a smooth drinkability. It is most similar in style to a Vienna lager or a Marzen beer. Judicious use of caramelized malt gives this brew a smooth sweetness and deep orange color. It is hopped with American Tettnang, German Hallertau and Czech Saaz.

(22oz. bottle) Clear amber body with healthy tan head. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel/toffee, some peach, earthy. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel/toffee, some earthy, bread, light spice, finishing with nice earthy hop bite. Light-medium body with slight stickiness. Good beer.

Bottle at London Gathering Nov 2005. Copper colour with sediment in suspension, beige lasting head. Exploded on opening. Bit nasty on nose. OK in mouth with yeasty funkiness on end. Have given default score as not sure it was supposed to be like this. Original score of 1.4

Bottle. tasted similiar to the pale ale, but this was maltier. Slightly infected character, with touches of berry fruit sourness. Infected, but in a wierd way, it made it quite interesting, otherwise, not so good.

on tap-pours a dissipating light tan head and copper color. Aroma is sweet medium malt, light/medium fruit. Taste is a bit heavy handed on the spices (from the hops?), sweet medium malt, light/medium fruit. OK carbonation.

Multiple bottles sampled over a period of about 2 months. Pours copper/red with a tan active head. Smells of roses, sugar, oranges, metallic, nutty and breaddy. Tastes lightly tangy with some cherry like sourness and not much else to speak of. I don’t know if this is a house character for their beers or a QC issue, but this is the third bottle of the oktoberfest I’ve tried so I’m assuming this is a known issue and my rating will stand. Total drainpour!

Clear deep orange with a light tan head. Mild sweet pear aroma, with an overall light taste and mouthfeel. Some sour apples, baked pie crust, and is just damn tasty. Hard to find a flaw. This could definitly be a session beer for me... some hop notes at the end, and some sweet yeasty flavors lasting in the finish. Thanks Kinz!

Bottle at London gathering, November 2005. Gift from The_Beer_God (thanks Mike) that had languished, forgotten about, at the back of my "cellar" for a while. As others have remarked, it was real gusher on opening. However, although I’m sure it wasn’t intended, I rather liked the sour notes that may have come from the suspected infection. It must be something about me as, a while ago, I forgave an infected bottle from the Shardlow brewery in England because it ended up tasting like a gueuze. So I noted this beer as interesting, rather than unpleasant. There were some hops peeking through the net curtains of sourness. I guess this may have a good ration of sweet malt in its intended form as I picked up a distinct sweet & sour undertone.

Bottled at the Chris_O Beer, Cheese and Curry powwow. A hazy copper coloured beer with a big rocky head. Gushed on opening. The aroma is malty and a little smoky. The taste is sweet and malty but there’s a different alcohol feel to German O’Fests. Below average.
